Absence of leave/withdraw - final year question

Options
Hi All

Just wanted some advice I know all universities are different but here it goes…

I’ve been given an extension on my final year project and I have two exams to sit that I’ve been given ‘first sits’ for as I provided medical evidence for the reasons I missed them. Then my graduation is in November

Altogether the three modules come up to 60 credits out of a 120 credit year. I’m totally in over my head one exam is on Friday followed by FYP and the other exam is on the 4th Sept - My FYP isn’t no where finished never mind revising for the exams

I haven’t ‘failed’ the year I just haven’t completed it therefore I am going to uni on Tuesday to ask to withdraw from the course and take the year again (the missing 60 credits) I don’t even need to complete the whole year again the modules are all for the second half so I could go back in January

Has anyone ever done this and what do you think my chances/options are?

I also don’t know where I stand financially i.e. the tuition fees are £3000 a year so if I attend half a year do I only pay half? What about student loans and other help?
Debts:
Student Loan
Student Overdraft
Cerdit Cards

Not ready to work out the total yet :D

I don't think you will get any student finance for the extra semester (that is what I was told anyway) as you've already had it, but you should only have to pay for the half year I'd have thought.

Perhaps you could make an appointment with the financial advisor on the same day? That way, you could go home and make a decision based on all the factors involved.

I'm not sure if you will be able to continue with the same final year study though, as they may say you'd then be getting extra tutition for it? Plus, is it normally taken over the whole of the final year as that may confuse the fee situation?

There are some situations where you can't resit modules already taken but I think this differs widely and you can find that out on Tuesday. I think it is more an issue if you have actually sat exams, which you haven't.

    Good luck for Tuesday

Definitely go and see a student advisor as soon as possible about the finances available to you. I think that you have a good chance of getting the finance you need, esp. if you have medical evidence to back up your need for additional studies. Everyone is allocated an additional year's funding as a back up just in case things go wrong.

You will have to contact your local authority as the decision on whether you are funded or not depends on them, this would include tuition fee loan & maintenance payments. You may have to provide them with the same evidence as your uni.

How much your fees will be depends very much on your uni.
