Advice from a friend of mine who is an advocate for women who have suffered from abusive partners: "If she phones women's aid tomorrow they will definitely help. Also they will give her a voucher for the food bank. They will also be able to advise her about money situation. And contact the local Church, but DWP should help as she is a DV victim, and they sort money ASAP."If she has Facebook tell her to go on Domestic Violence UK it's a closed page so they will vet her profile first, but there are lots of people on there who can advise, lots of professionals "

  • it doesn't seem to let me message you but thank you so much. Women's Aid are 24 hours it says, so I will just keep trying them and I have also left a voicemail asking them to call me back when they can.

It's hard to focus on the positive side of things now but having got rid of my abuser is a positive step for our future

    thanks x

Contact your local authority tomorrow, ask about the Local Welfare Provision...they can help with emergency electric and gas, and food... you should be able to get that sorted tomorrow.

Have you got prepayment meters for gas/electricity? If you have run out of credit contact your provider first thing in the morning and they will give you some emergency credit.

I don't want to read and run,and sadly i don't have any advice thats not been given.
But I'm sure you know that all our best wishes and support are with you,and you must come back here anytime you need further advice.
Thinking of you and your little one.
    xx
  • When I said I have my own flat I just mean that I live in a rented flat with a contract etc and my rent is up to date and not due until 20th December.
  • Thank you for all your help and advice everyone. I feel like I have the information I need to really get some answers from the Job Centre when I call them again first thing in the morning.

I'm not sure if any of you have experienced this but sometimes when you use your debit card for a contactless payment it will go through even if you don't have enough money in your account. I tried that Thursday morning and they must have unfortunately tried to get authorisation and it was declined. Embarrassing but at least I tried lol

Hopefully you'll be sorted for a bit. I wasn't aware the contactless thing worked sometimes with no money in the bank but then i've never tried it.

    Good luck!
  • Did you report to the police the money stolen from your savings account?! Plus the domestic abuse the police can help you go somewhere safe

Also you need to make a claim for child benefit, child tax credits, income support and housing benefit to pay your rent.

Speak to your health visitor as well, they can be very helpful and help you get some support put into place.
You need to open a bank account in your name only for any future monies to go into.
Make sure you follow up with WomensAid I've heard very good things about them.
