Hi,

Am new to this and really need some help.

I need someone (not a cowboy) to install a new boiler and radiators as my very old system is no longer up to the job. It's been hard enough trying to find someone who I think is not a cowboy but when I have contacted them, they are not responding or saying they are too busy with emergencies and can replace my boiler in the summer. Unfortunately my system is so weak it cannot wait until summer.

This leads me to here....I have had bad experiences in the past with someone doing bad work in my home and am still living with the results.
If you know of a reputable, reasonably price company (gas safe registered) in the Stratford, East London area, then please let me know.

A newbie to this forum business and hoping for a good result :-)
Thanks

  • Use a reputable company rather than a one man band if you want peace of mind, but expect to pay more.
  • I agree with MeterMan find a reputable company rather than a one man band, they can be cheaper but don't generally offer a very long warranty - something a reputable company will no doubt offer.

According to WHICH two of the most reliable boiler makes are Worcester Bosch and Veissmann. Go the manufacturer's website or phone them and ask for their recommended installers in your area.

e.g. http://www.viessmann.co.uk/ and click the link for installers.

    Get 3 quotes.

With Veissmann you get a 5 year guarantee which can be extended to 10 years, I think Worcester Bosch have a similar system. At least if you have a problem with an installer, you can get the manufacturer to investigate.

You need to bear in mind that your 'very old' boiler will be non-condensing and all replacement boilers must be condensing. This means there is far more involved than a 'one for one' replacement. You will need a new flue, a condensate drain, and possibly a larger gas supply pipe.

It might be worth also getting a quote from British gas - who will be much more expensive - to see what is involved and how much they charge.

Thanks Cardew, this is great. I had heard about those boilers before and using their recommended installers is a great idea. Thanks.

Another top boiler make to go with is Vaillant. I've just had one fitted and it's much quieter than my old Ideal one and it came with a 10 Year Manufacturer's Warranty too.

Combi or conventional boiler? What makes you think the rads need replacing as well?
    What boiler is currently installed?
