fuel cards

Hello.
We run a plumbing and heating business and need a low cost way for the new lads to be able to pay for fuel.
We don't want to give them company credit cards or access to the bank account. Can anyone recommend the best fuel card?
Thanks

Fuel cards can carry a surcharge as opposed to discount. Instead, how about prepaid MasterCard from Kalixa (or one of the other providers, but I settled on kalixa after looking at all of the market, good value, real time alerts, and has a scheme where you can get a fiver back if you're referred)?
You would put maybe £100 or whatever on the card, the driver would use it and you'd get an SMS it email the second they did, they would bring the VAT receipt to the office, and you check it off against the statement. If they try to sneak any chocolate on there, you'll know from the receipt and they can refund you, and you'll be able to track and control costs.
I don't know if it's still the same, but some fuel cards used to charge annual fees, usage fees, limit you to certain fuel chains making more driving round to find one, etc. They became a bit like gift cards, expensive and could only spend them in certain places! Just an option to consider, anyway, as the prepaid card route is effectively free and more flexible.0 -

As paddyrg says, fuel cards will prove expensive (despite their claims otherwsie)
Usual way is to get the driver to pay for any fuel themself and then you'll refund via a valid receipt.
If the drivers are pleading poverty, (a) pay them better and/or (b) sub them from the petty cash account.
Good deal on fuel from Asda this weekend0 -

We use fuelgenie as well no surcharge. Use at tesco morrisons and sainsburys. I also like the fact we have linked the account to our trackers. So red flags if anyone tries to use fuel card and vehicle not there. The futures bright the future is Ginger0
