DIY Loft Hatch question

Hi, I'm in the process of installing a new loft hatch, and so far so good, it opens downwards, however, I'm trying to use gas struts to cushion the downward swing, i.e. when opening it, so that it doesn't freely swing down, but the gas struts I have only seem to resist when shutting (pushing the door up), like holding a car boot open. Is there a gas strut/spring that will do what I'm after, so cushion/slow down the opening of it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

They definitely exist, my wife's work has one in their building, but that is a complete off the shelf hatch.0

answered over on diynot, they may be a bit lightweight in the specs it says a 600mm hatch can only be 2.1Kg also from opening from horizontal rather than vertical they might open faster too.
These might be better but lord knows where you would get them0
