Zero pay this month!

Full details are needed here. Gross tax NI other deductions for last month and this month. What is the overpayment element for last month. Full details of sickness to check for SSP entitlement.
If a correction was made then it should be put through the payroll system and a payslip produced even if the payslip gives a zero net figure, though I would expect to see in most cases a tax rebate even if the full gross pay was cancelled out. National insurance needs to be checked as easy to forget the corrections that may be needed in cases like this.0 -
Well firstly your friend needs to write down exactly what days ( or hours if it's paid per hour) he has worked and when he was sick. You then need to find out exactly what hours he has been paid and when and what has been taken back. It sounds like a mess to be honest and a complete nightmare.

this whole thing actually makes no sense. He was not paid double last month - it was roughly the same as the month before.
The 'error' apparently happened because of sick leave which was paid last month and then retracted this month as it was a 'mistake' as new employees are apparently not entitled to any sick pay in the first 4 months.
Even allowing for this ,he did not have the whole month off !
They are also saying he will not be having his full wage next month either despite a full attendance record.
It makes no sense to me.
if he was paid the same as 1st month what's the 'overpayment'?
unless he's meant to be paid 1k a month, got 1.5k and didn't say anything?
and why would you get sick pay advanced in wages?
and why is month three not being paid now?
what is the full story here...?0 -
Exactly
It makes no sense.
He has a payslip but no-one can make head nor tale of it as it is a load of figures with no clarity as to which are deductions and which are credited amounts.
No tax is payable as he earns just under the threshold.
He started work in September ,was paid the expected amount at the end of the month
Had some sick leave in October (with doctor's note) ,which was paid as sick pay so at the end of October ,he had about the same as the month before.
He was not sure about sick entitlement ,so was pleasantly surprised .
This is what they are now saying was paid in error and needs to be clawed back ,but it cannot be right that they have taken back his entire pay and claim he still owes more.
Fortunately a senior member of staff agrees that it is incorrect and will look into it next week.0 -
Whether the figures make sense to you or not the only way anyone can assist is if you tell us the figures.
Has a payslip for the month no pay was received been asked for, as said before there should still be a payslip to show the adjustment even if ended in zero pay. This is not just a question of tax but also NI and correct return of earnings to HMRC.
Has any SSP been questioned/paid/forms issued for non-paymment?0 -
It sounds like September was probably correct. Can you work out roughly how much you think he should have been paid for October and november? Someone in payroll needs to obviously investigate this. They may not be able to run another payroll straight away but I would expect them to make an advance/ loan until the next payroll when it can all be corrected. It's ridiculous to expect someone to have no money.
He could put in a complaint but given he hasn't been there that long and has been sick already this may sadly mark his cards
.
Let's hope they can sort this next week.

It would make sense for them to take back the sick leave but not to take a months worth. What a horrid thing to happen, at Christmas as well.

Scare over - it was all a mistake.
It will take a while to rectify so he will be paid late ,but that's a whole lot better than not being paid at all!
Thanks for your help.0
