Procedure for buying a car that is 'SORN'?
Hi. Ive just put down a deposit for car that is SORN.
It has valid MOT certificate & I will be insuring it in the next 24 hours.
The seller still has the car - it is off road / untaxed
Once I've insured it, and pay the remainder of the balance to the seller & get the V5/log book, what do I do next.
Basically I want to be able to drive it back 100% legally but not bought a SORN car or a car since the Road Tax rules changed.
Thanks

Tax it, thats it.
To save you the most money, buy and tax the new car on 1st of December.0 -
So if I tax it in Nov, I pay as if I had taxed it from 1st Nov? Crafty!!
I'm not sure the seller can wait 4 days but I'll ask nicely
My real question is HOW do I go about taxing it? Thanks0 -
How did you test drive it?0

Online https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax
Make sure you type the number from the green slip part of the V5c, NOT the one on the front, or your money gets refunded to the old keeper as you would be paying it in their name.
You do this from your mobile internet device sitting in the car, and then you are all legal to drive away (some people reckon you need to be able to show the email receipt to the Police, but they will be more interested in whether you have insurance tbh)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

So it's online only? I wouldnt be able to ring them to sort it? I have very questionable internet coverage from Vodafone!0 -
Or by phone : 0300 123 4321, or at a Post Office that issues vehicle licences.0
