unexpected hospital bill

Last week I saw a consultant privately and was told my 'moles' were in fact warts and the doctor could remove them for me there and then, at no charge. So when I got a bill for 219 this week I thought it was a mistake. Apparently, the doctors 'don't know' that the hospital will charge for the procedure. Surely they can not send me a bill for something I could hav refused, and would have refused, had I known such as high cost was involved in such a small procedure. I'm fuming to say the least!!

Normal at a private service
You pay the doctor you pay the hospital you pay for any procedures and you pay for any equipment .0 -
Do you have anything in writing to say there would be no charge? How many were removed and how was it done?
In private healthcare I would assume everything to be chargeable unless told otherwise in writing.0 -
My Doctor was charged £25- for paracetamol and in my view he never recovered from the shock .0

Was this bill in addition to the one for the consultation?0

You should write a complaint direct to the doctor (as only they and you know what they said). If he/she does not dispute what you say then I expect they would ensure you are refunded for the excess over the consultation fee.
However it they dispute the facts (perhaps there was some genuine misunderstanding) then your problem is you would need to prove, on the balance of probability, your version was correct. And I suspect that will not be easy.0 -
So the doctor didn't charge a fee for doing the procedure but the hospital charged for using the facilities and any equipment involved.0
