Driving to depot as parcel there (but it wasnt) - mileage claim?

Odd one, I was told my parcel was ready to pickup at a depot from a large delivery company.

I got there to be told they'd actually lost it.

Miles to/from depot = 45 miles in total.

The delivery company is rejecting me from claiming from them for mileage despite an advisor telling me the parcel was there.

Is it possible to claim this from them in any other way?

You'd have to be seen to be mitigating your losses - was driving to them the only option could you not have got them to redeliver it for free / cheaper than the cost of driving?

Did you attempt to get it delivered to your house but wasn't in?

You have no contract with the parcel company (Unless you paid them directly)

Any recourse must be against the retailer/seller/sender of the parcel.
