Hi Chuck, I can't find it now. It was in an article about the IR wanting to clamp down on people not paying CGT on sale of second homes. Basically the Revenue want to collect the amount due at the point of sale at a flat rate.

They've changed the rule now, it is at the point of sale ( or 30 days after).

    £1,750,000 = extra £7,500 ??

at 15% that would be £262,000

I think that someone who can afford to buy a second home over £1,500,000 can afford to pay the 15%

It's not about whether they can afford it. I can afford 5p for a plastic bag but if I forget bags I'll stuff things in my pockets and generally do what I can to avoid buying one. Judging by the number of people doing the same thing I'm not alone.

So true odd to think though that the carnies were complaining about house prices when they first came to the UK. Maybe classic central banker double speak ?

Yes value (not cost) should be the focus.
