Wood Burning Fire With Glass Top Dilemma!

Hi Guys

Looking for abit of advice!

Recently bought a log burner which came with an optional extra glass top. The glass is toughened and heat resistant and quite frankly cost a fortune. it came in 2 halfs, wraps around the flue and sits on little rubber feet which position about 2cm off the top of the burner.

We have had log burners in the past so are quite experienced at using them and understand how to get the optimum levels of heat out of the burner and more importantly not to overheat them.

So here the kicker! after the fourth use of the new burner i came downstairs to find one side of the top glass cracked right through the middle. by the sixth time we used it the other side of the glass did exactly the same thing!!

After complaining to the supplier i am getting stonewalled with a default excuse that i must have had the fire too hot which caused the glass to crack!! this is total rubbish and i want to take things further, has anyone got any suggestions as to what i should do? is it worth getting the glass tested indipendantly?

Any help would be great!!

Regards

J
