Cone after spaying

She got signed off at the vets and they cut her collar off. She just stood looking at the vet for a little while in shock before getting very excited it was now off. They have given it me back in case she goes near the area as there is still a little scab, but so far she hasn't tried to!0

My other boy didn't bother about his wound, but I couldn't risk no collar with Teddy, as he is a scratcher/nibbler, at the slightest thing.0

I've never tried one, but.... My vet has been promoting "surgical t-shirts" that apparently some dogs (and cats) prefer to cones:

As I said, never tried one myself and not sure where you can buy them from (haven't Googled them yet), but might be worth looking into?? Though if they're only available from vets they're probably hideously expensive!0 -
Our staffy had the cone on for one night and then we took it off - couldn't stand seeing her looking so miserable! Turned out she wasn't the slightest bit interested in her wound anyway and never went near it when the cone was off.0

I tried my pup (Shih Tzu) with a cone a couple of weeks before spaying. She went ballistic & wouldn't tolerate it at all. I then tried a soft inflatable collar & she was quite happy with that.
In the end though, she didn't take any notice of her wound at all & so she never used the collar because I was only going to put it on her if she attacked the wound.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

I forgot about the surgical t shirt - my vet gave me a baby gro when i collected pup after her op. She said that many dogs prefer the baby gro because they feel comforted & it gives support to the wound. The surgical t shirt does the same thing but a baby gro is much cheaper! As I said in my other post, I didn't need to use anything anyway in the end.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65

That's a great tip!! I'll remember that if my vet ever tries to flog me a surgical t-shirt.0
