DNMS - I'm so sorry to hear about the terribly insensitive manner in which your daughter was treated. In your position, I would write an official letter of complaint to the rail company's customer services in which you use the word 'equalities' frequently. Your daughter was not intentionally fare-dodging. One of the railway stations in our town has no ticket office or staffing of any kind. There is a machine on the platform from which tickets are bought, but if it fails to deliver a ticket or a customers card doesn't work for whatever reason, there is no-one to help & people have no option but to get on the train & buy their ticket when the ticket inspector comes around. There is no way that this can be an uncommon situation for rail staff. It sounds like it was the perfect storm for your daughter in that she first encountered the 'Jobsworth' on the train, then a succession of people without the pretty basic insight not to realise that your daughter was having genuine problems dealing with the situation. If you write an official letter, apart from using the word 'Equalities', you could also mention the seriousness of them putting a vulnerable young woman off the train, etc, etc. There was a situation a couple of years ago in the city nearest to us when young woman was thrown off a night bus by the driver for similar reasons & the outcome for her was horrendous. I'm not a parent myself, but I get very wound up by such blatant issues of injustice & I would simply have to submit an official complaint.
And were they all men? I bet they were.
    Grrrr.

    Hi all,

Yay!! Thursday...not quite Friday but it is nearly there !!

Hope everyone is OK - Determined - what on earth !!
I've been running round like a blue bottomed fairy - I've also wished the karma bus on people ....

    Today I have/will:
    • breakfast and dinner from stores
    • didn't have time to make lunch, so went for a cheap sandwich
    • low spend day - i was forced to succumb to a bar of chocolate from the vending machine
    • checked online banking - pay day tomorrow and there is still money there for my car tax so I've paid for that nice and early
    • checked investments, all is as it should be
    • looked at what i need to pay next month
    • moved pennies to my sealed pots

Think that is about it.....I had to walk away from someone at work today......the actual conversation goes like this :

Me to a new member of staff : manager likes to be called Lord (as a joke)
New member of staff: really ??? :oo
Manager: no, new member of staff can call me Andrew.....I respect her !!

As I am so tired I think I may be a little sensitive, which is why I let it slip.....however, does this mean that he doesn't respect me ???:eek::eek::eek:

I think that an early night is in order

    Take care all,
    Candy xxx

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Determined - how hideous. As another angle on the complaints thing I'd be threatening them with the media. It really doesn't read very well at all and the local news might quite like to hear of it. Whoever did this to her is an utter bully. I am so sorry you have had this to deal with. Hugs to you both.

I wouldn't read too much into it. I read it as you were ribbing him and he did the same right back at you.

Thanks everyone for replying to my post. I was so upset and angry about the situation, but I assume things are ok now. My dd went to stay with a good friend who came and picked her up.

Honestly she/I have to deal with these situations regularly, all sorts of people who should be better trained - once my oh had to intervene in a gp appt as it was going south quickly. Her disorder does mean she's can be a right pain in the a** when her mood is disregulated but but a sympathetic non-judgmental attitude really deescalates the situation quickly. But a judgmental, shaming & ridiculing attitude can make things go real crazy real quick.

I do intend to take this further.

  • DNM that upset me, particularly as I have a DS with MH issues. We had a run in with a member of nursing staff in hospital when DS was supposed to be having a scan and had got very very worked up She just didnt know what to do and made things worse. Its our experience that even a lot of medical staff dont know how to handle people with MH type illnesses. Thank goodness she rang you.

I am fighting to get £100 I am owed by a Company I did some work for. I am basically holding back some information they need to get the money. This really goes against the grain for me and I dont even hold out much hope of getting the money but we will see.

DS has ripped his waterproof trousers and I have mended them unsuccessfully. I think we are going to have to buy new ones.

Washing over airer, pizza with leftovers for tea tomorrow. Oh and I accidentally left my purse at home today which is a great way not to spend anything!
  • Hmmmnnnn  today didn't quite work out as I planned. It wasn't horrific but I've just had to kind of go along with it.
Started when I was late for work thanks to the main road being closed after an accident. Then dd was invited back to cheer class so I was out this evening. I intended to do a little shop but ended up doing the weekly shop with the very last of my money... then I got home and had to sort stuff out for a party I'm going to tomorrow night, then lunches, then bed. So busy as ever but not the day I'd planned.
Looks like another late night - but the end of the week is in sight.

[STRIKE]:silenced: do not get stressed, no matter how few of us there are in the department or how little support I get[/STRIKE] I did remarkably well with this in spite of everything.
Right - I'm off to catch up with the rest of today's goings on...
  • Oh DNMS - I'm sorry to read about the situation with your dd...
I regularly have 'discussions' with people about my behaviour management at school, and was recently criticised by a member of senior management about how I manage my classes. I think it's just that I try to use respect and reasoning when dealing with difficult behaviour, rather than the hairdryer treatment. I can get some of the most difficult kids in the school sitting down and working for me.
I'm pleased that you are going to take things further
