This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all

4am and I'm wide awake, my comments about withdrawing from the family dramas hit home, the will reading was suggested yesterday and hubby explained that he's happy to receive a copy through the post rather than endure another family drama.

A couple of hours later another phone call, it seems the ashes now need collecting and scattering, this was to have been done by the staff at the crematorium and now, suddenly this can only be done by calling all the family together for another brawl.

Further discussions with hubby are enabling him to see who is puling the strings here and why!

So the drawbridge is still raised and I'm on guard duty, fielding hysterical calls and knitting scarves.

Lovely to see your post LW, especially the cyclist = Meals on wheels comment, I had a dog like that.

Have a good day everyone.

Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

HH - sounds like you've made a very wise decision in raising the drawbridge, can't any of them actually think about poor FIL who is still alive and in the middle of all this? hugs to you and hubby x

Now getting light, looks like it's drying up under foot.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him for school shortly.

Dinner last night was tortellini in sauce, breaded chicken pieces, and onion rings. Tonight not sure, but will be able to organise something from either the cupboards or fridge/freezer.

Got some housework done yesterday, did all the ironing that was dry enough to iron, did a stack of shredding, did some admin jobs, changed the beds, so was reasonably productive. I still have the fruit for xmas cake soaking, that really needs to be made either today or tomorrow and I need to get the puds done too. I need to get into gear with those.

Will crack on with jobs from the "to do" list today.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for the thread HH. It's amazing how puppet masters hate being ignored and try to rack up things to get attention. Adult toddlers!

Yesterday I had a much better day. I was up and dressed all day, lit the woodburner and dealt with some household stuff. Only intermittent coughing and hardly any need for tissues. Slept well too all through the night with only a short rough patch this morning.

I'll strip the bed this morning and get the linen washed. That could be it for the day although I'm on a roll with clearing out drawers upstairs. Nothing too strenuous you understand!

Think I'll have a wee snooze now. Only woke for a wee and a drink.

I hope everyone has a good day.
  • Good morning all,

Thank you Hester for starting us off.

I truly believe some people thrive on causing trouble and mayhem. You and DH made the right decision Hester, and I have this wonderful picture in my head of you on guard duty :)

We are popping into town today, I don't need much but I need a stocking filler for DGS and a M&S gift card for my sister's birthday (she is a lady who has everything, and if she hasn't got it she doesn't want it).

We will drop DGD1 off at work on the way.

When we come home must put the Dyson round downstairs, and I have a bit of washing to do but not a lot.

We are not going anywhere tomorrow. Last year we had to stand in line at Asda to do our weekly shop (Black Friday), and I vowed then never again.

Have a good day all, and hugs to all poorlies

  • Morning all, I will be awat to visit family for a couple of days in a while so will look forward to hearing about everyonr's lives at the weekend. I am a nosy old baggage. OH and DS are well able to look after themselves and so they should be. I am taking family presents with me so if anyone is on the train to Yorkshire and spots an over laden ancientofdays that'll be me. Nice that my nieces prefer money to spend, that is not heavy.

Hester, you need that drawbridge, I do feel for you and Mr HH.
Have a great day everyone or at least a passable one.

    Morning :hello:

Yesterday was a bit stressy, Scampi was acting the same as the first time we met him. He was fine til about 11am then suddenly seemed really nervous. Apart from when he was sleeping, he spent the rest of the day either cowering or barking at every noise from outside. He eventually went back to normal halfway through the evening.

I did the recommended carrying on as normal so he could see that things were fine but it made no difference. Today I'm going to stick to quick and easy jobs so if we have a repeat of yesterday I can just drop whatever I'm doing and immediately sort out whatever issue Scampi is having. It's so annoying, not having his full history. Hopefully he'll be OK. I wanted a calm easy week so I can potter, read and crochet and I want to get back to that :D

  • Morning all. HESTER I really feel for you. Some families seem to thrive on trouble. You do right withdrawing from it all. Hope you managed to get back to sleep.

I've been up since silly o'clock again myself after numerous loo visits. I have an appointment with the practice nurse this morning for my annual bp check (I'm a classic white coat syndrome case so it will be up) and will take a sample with me and get her to check it. The uti's that clobber me don't have classic cystisis symptoms so I never know if it's the IC or an infection causing the pain. It's time the Urologists started earning their brass and sorted me out.

We have the 3 DGD's for tea and sleepover, after their respective after-school swimming and diving clubs. I got a text off the eldest last night requesting a Bolognese Bake for tea. They'd live off it I'm sure! So there is a pan of Bolognese on the go already!

As it was a nice sunny afternoon yesterday we got well wrapped up and had a walk up to the Moor Gate. We admired the far reaching views, as usual, but it was blowing a gale up there so didn't dally long. It was very muddy underfoot (thanks to the bullocks who use the track from the fields back to the farm!) so our jeans had to go straight in the wash basket and boots left in the garage for a good clean!

After the nurse appt this morning we'll go down to Aldi and Iceland as the fridge looks quite bare and fruit and veg stocks are low. If it's as chaotical in Aldi as last Thursday I'll have to change our shopping day. It was horrendous.

Glad you are picking up at last GERS. Have a good day all ((((((HUGS)))))) to all wanting/needing them. Take care xx

HH, that's shocking. I can't start to imagine what these people are like. I hope when this is all over you never have to have anything to do with them again.
LW - Well done on the 'spaghetti' sorting, how do those wires get so tangled when no-one touches them!

Managed to get lots of jobs done yesterday when I got home from work including sorting out the house insurance. The company I was with quoted over £500 but on-line they were £286, I phoned them and they honoured that which was very competitive.

Going to Glasgow straight from work for a 'Christmas Extravagaza', that actually means that a centre in town has lots of promotions in their shops and they 'help' you round with glasses of prosecco! There are 4 of us going, having something to eat whilst out too.

Gers - Hope you have turned that corner.
    ancient - Enjoy your weekend.

    Take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Get well wishes to poorly folk, love and strength to those going through tough times x

Cold and clear here today, when we first went out with the girls the moon was just setting and mist just hanging on the top of the fields.
Need to do some ironing this morning and get over to see my boy, am hoping the farrier will turn up as well so Bill's feet are trimmed before he travels on Monday.
This afternoon am off to the opticians, would imagine my prescription will have changed as am struggling a bit, have never really got on with the varifocals so will see about having two pairs instead. As am in town will also do some food shopping for the weekend as want to avoid any shops tomorrow, have very little left in the freezer now as wanted to clear some space for next month but will stuff some newspaper in there until purchases are made.

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Morning all.

Back from my short break down south. Men back at work and I'm awaiting my Grandson who is expected any time now.

House needs a bit of a clean. 5 teenagers trampling through it hasn't helped.

Hugs Hester. I am hoping this particular drama will be over soon.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all
