I probably spend about £100 but usually try and sneak some jammies and a jumper etc in there which I'd be buying anyway. It depends though - last year he got a psp so it was higher but now he has that and PS2 so really just wants some games. it's the same with birthdays as sometimes he's outgrown a bike and "needs" a new one and others it's just small bits and pieces.

A thought for the people who are struggling, especially the lady whose son wants lego...have you thought of joining your local freecycle group and seeing if anyone has any spare lego? www.freecycle.org I'm in a couple of local freecycle groups and I'm amazed at the amount and type of things which are offered for free...furniture, bikes, cameras, kids clothes etc.

I spend about £250 on my daughter. £100 for main gift and £150 for other gifts. It does not go far. 2 DS games cost me £60 alone. She is 10 and it gets more expensive every year.

Every year when my daughter tells us what outragously expensive prezzie she wants (& we suffer it for birthdays too), she says, "go on, its my last big go at it" (meaning she won't be a kid to get REALLY spoilt at Xmas):rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Well she said this for 16th & the xmas she was 16, her 17th & the xmas she was 17, her 18th & the xmas she was 18, her 19th & the xmas she was 19, her 20 & now the xmas she is 20:rolleyes:

    Every year, same old chestnut:rotfl:

We got her driving lessons (20, from the AA:eek: , BUT I got £3 off per hour because I work for Surrey county council & I got £2 off per hour because of bulk buying more than 12. So instead of £24.50 per hour, only £19.50 "VERY MSE". She also chipped in & got herself 10 on the deal). I'm hoping 30 lesons will be enough.
She then wants a car:rolleyes:   , she also wants it taxed, moted & insured:mad:   . We said she will need to sort her own insurance out. We are giving her my car (a little Toyota) & I can get a new one, "VERY MSE".

Of course we still have to get her something to open on xmas morning, she wants a pair of designer sunglasses (about £180!) Anyone know any good deals on sunglasses? I think its channel ones she wants.

She wants to go to Claridges (Gordons restaurant) for her 21st.

To all people who over induldge your kids, let this be a warning to you. They may turn out with very expensive tastes like our daughter:o :o:o:o

    Hya folks, back again ;)

Having read this and other threads about Christmas spending...and saving, I have set down and worked out what to give everyone this year.

My DS1 had requested a laptop for Xmas and birthday together (18 on 28th!), but has decided he would rather wait and save up the money he is earning and get what he wants next summer. Now he would like a mobile phone (he has never had one) and a classical guitar....so we will be able to have something for him to open on Christmas morning (phone) and once he knows how much money he has been given by our family, he will be able to go and choose his classical guitar...at least that is the plan! No doubt I will get him a CD and/or a DVD as well as a jumper or t-shirt.... Matalan here we come!

DS2 who originally wanted just money would now like the new Gloucester rugby shirt (well done on winning last night lads!), ...that will be his main present @ £40, with a few extras: a DVD and clothes I expect.

So our expenditure is not going to be too bad....I have looked at all my left-over presents from previous years, and most are going to good homes this year...so I have more space under the bed now...yippeee! They are mostly kids books that I got in packs of 10 from The Book People (great prices) to split and give to my sons and their friends for birthdays...they have grown past them, but my nephew and nieces are just the right age now!

I have at least got my DS1 agreeing to go out for a meal for his 18th...he doesn't like going out much or too much birthday celebrations. I suppose I should be thankful, as DS2 will probably want all the trimmings...or at least will try to negotiate to get the money we would have spent on a big party! Mind you the past 3 years he and 3 friends have gone to a Gloucester rugby match then come home to eat and play their guitars! perhaps I can keep this going for a few more years!

I am making up mini food boxes/baskets with Home made jams, chutneys, sweets, biscuits and cakes for various presents...cheap baskets and boxes, cheap tissue paper and a roll of florists' cellophane from my cupboard ...sorted!

Have a great time shopping and wrapping! :xmastree::xmassign:
