10 day notice period before debiting from credit card

in Credit cards
I am currently in dispute with Nationwide car rental (for another thread). They have deducted £1200 from my credit card for insurance excess as a result of a minor accident I had. They sent me an email with an invoice and deducted the money the same day. My bank tells me they should have given a 10 day notice period before taking the money. Does anyone know anything about this rule - I did a google search and see it is relevant for direct debits but didn't know it applied to debits from credit cards as well???

Does it make any difference?
Either you signed up for the terms which allowed them to do this or you didn't - which is it?0
