Family fund.

I've just got my form through the post and i'm feeling quite nervous about it, my daughter suffers from cerebral palsy, astma and reflux, she wears special shoes and 2 hearing aids, gets high rate care and mobility.
My problem is i'm not sure what to put down on the form, we've had a very stressful year so far (husband suffers from schizophrenia and epilpsy). I'v heard that we could put down for a hoilday, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge/freezer etc.I wondered if there was anything else that we can ask for or is it just the above.
I'm not sure weather we will be offered any help but i suppose i just wondered what other things were on offer. Any help or advice would be great as i'd never heard of the familyfund until i came to this site.
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

I dont know if you have already seen this but here is link to the Family Fund website which may help you further:http://www.familyfund.org.uk/newsite/default.asp?section=00010001
  • We get family fund. Usually £380 for holidays/day outs and £100 for bedding. We are quite happy with that, it`s a good help. You can only claim once a year. Other things we`ve had if not hols and bedding are Tumbler, washing machine, computer software. Not on the same claim form though. I don`t get to greedy as we`re happy with hols money, it pays for caravan holiday.

You can only get one grant a year but you can ask for more than one thing that you need at that time.

Try www.specialkidsintheuk.org for advice from other parents.
  • hi we have had money towards a shed for our ds to uses as a base camp.plus a trampoline the year before.
The first year we had 2 things we asked for ,then last year we had 1 item.

We asked for a grant for the first time this year, and they have been wonderful. I asked for money towards a washing machine as my older son fits in the night and soils, and my younger son has crohns disease and soils everything. Not only did they give us a washing machine, but also money towards new bedding for the kids and a holiday grant as well. Its made such a difference, and the washing machine has a 5 year parts and labour warranty so I don't have to fret about it breaking down. Everyone I spoke to was lovely, and didn't make me feel bad about asking at all, so make sure you fill in the form! You can ask for anything as long as its things that are over and above what you would need for a child without disabilties. A friend had a widescreen tv so that her deaf daughter could get proper subtitles (square tvs often cut them off).
