Yes, you normally leave your luggage in the corridor the night before departure.

This year, our cleaner decide to throw away all our holiday mementos (postcards, a few toys) thinking it was rubbish. That really sucked - so my tip is PACK YOUR HOLIDAY STUFF PROPERLY. Don't just leave things out in the cabin or they might get chucked.

Not sure about taking booze on, thought this was frowned upon? Have looked at the drinks packages and may buy one, but standard tea is complimentary which suits me

We didn't take the brandy to the restaurant but it was available for a tipple in our cabin

On the cruises we've been on we've had tea/coffee sachets & mini kettle in our cabin as well as access to tea/coffee/water/fruit juice in the buffet restaurant when we wanted it

Be aware that if its Royal Carribean you will pay something like 15% extra every time you buy alcohol unless you buy a package which can be expensive.Also with gratuities they will automatically take somethings like £20 per day this for your stateroom attendant and restaurant staff.You can go to the pursers desk and ask to opt out which is what I do if my cruise package does not include them .I take dollars cash and give them to staff who have given me good device.I have been been on several cruises and sure you will have a great time.

and just make sure on your last night that you don't let the cabin door shut and lock behind you when out in the corridor with the cases in your night clothes! and yes, it does happen!!!

The boarding part is wonderful compared to taking a flight, by the time you get in the lounge to the time you're on the ship took us 10 minutes and was totally stress free. Being able to leave your luggage at the entrance (and not have to worry about the weight if you haven't flown in) is another bonus!

You can then start enjoying the fun before you haven't even started off.

So agree FBaby - I can see why older people tend to go on cruises.

We recently went on a fly-cruise for the first time and I wondered how it worked but it was exactly like boarding the ship direct......checked in the suitcases at the airport and didn't see them again until we were on the ship - and it all happened again when we were leaving.

Except with fly cruise you still have all those regulations about liquids, bottles of water , weight of hand / hold luggage etc at the airport.
With a cruise you can almost drive up to the terminal building- no guesses for which one I would choose!!!

I agree with you about which one I would choose but sometimes, due to location, fly cruise is an easier option!
