It may work. It may not. However, you are breaking the rules so to speak, because the mandate you're signing says the current account is in your name...and it isn't.
As to whether you'd get caught, or what they'd do about it, I don't know. Why doesn't she donate (some of her 'winnings') to worthwhile charities by DD instead?
You say "most" require DDs. I'd say it was more like 50/50 these days (although Nationwide RAF may tip the balance), with FD, M&S, and Halifax not requiring DDs to be switched...so why not start there instead?0 -
thanks how long does a DD take to show on account roughly would you say tried Halifax kept saying error on the final stages0

I have the utility bills in my name and some of the DDs are set up from my husband's account.
Usually set everything up online and when the question (on the screen) asks to confirm that "the account is in your name" i just get him to clcik "yes" so I am truthfully answering all questions. When we used to set things up over the phone, I would pass the phone over and it was never a problem.
I've never had a DD queried for not being in the name of the account holder.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I wonder if any problems would manifest themselves if ever the account holder had reason to invoke the DD guarantee? ie when the bank asked the DD originator to indemnify them they'd find the customer names wouldn't match.0
