Don't post on spam threads

I have just had two emails from the Forum team thanking me for reporting threads but advising me not to post on the threads themselves.
They seem to have plenty of time to do this but no time to actually watch the forum and hit the spam before anyone else.

They've got a fair point though. By posting on the thread, you are just bumping it back up so it gets more recognition. You are helping the spammers (while also reporting them!)0

I have no problem letting obvious spam sink, it is the subtle ones that look like real threads thet I comment on so that other people notice them and hit the button thus removing them quicker.0 -

Andrea, when obvious spam sits for hours and has 43+ views then I have to think that WE are wasting our time hitting the button.
also
When a more subtle spammer joins and posts once every couple of days and their posts sit with 100+ views then bumping them with a comment feels to me to be the only way they will get noticed.
I shall retire in the face of overwhelming apathy.0 -
43 'views' doesn't necessarily mean that 43 posters capable of hitting the spam button have read it. VAST majority will be ones from 'guests' and bots, especially on a site like this which is HEAVILY indexed by them.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Sorry fermi, I just don't care enough any more, if MSE can't get someone with power to patrol at night then why should we have to mop up the dregs in the morning.
It's not like they are too poor to hire someone.0 -

I have to say I agree with this.
Also, one spammer/stooge I saw recently also quickly re-edited their OP to make it look much less obvious after they were called-out but not quoted.
Last time I looked, it was still there, despite being reported.0
