Direct Debit: "Inactive" in PayPal

HI. When I bought AVG Antivirus, a pre-approved payment arrangement was automatically created. I can see this in PayPal. However from 26 Nov. last year it's status is "Cancelled". It's recorded in PayPal as "Inactive". Now, I don't see a Direct Debit associated with AVG in my Santander current account. Is it the case that only I could activate the pre-approved payment arrangement, which I believe is a Direct Debit? I think this is correct, but I would like confirmation, if possible. Hate for AVG to be able to re-activate it. Thanks.
EDIT: Although, when I think about it, I never set up the pre-approved payment, AVG did, on a simple purchase. So, one wonders whether AVG can indeed re-activate the pre-approved payment. But, they should not be able to, because cancelling a pre-approved payment, is same as cancelling a subscription.
