How to find a job ASAP, what other options are there to find work fast?!

He was out of work for a period of 3 years (27-30) thankfully he had savings from when he worked prior to this which tided him over. When he was looking for work he applied for everything, and I mean everything because he lived with me and my partner for a bit and jobseeking in itself became his daily job. He would send off his CV to 20+ jobs per day. No-one would give him a second glance. Agencies would call him back and query his long work absence and then he’d hear nothing further. He was jobseeking for 8 months whilst he lived with us and 4 months at his previous address. At this time we lived in London so again no shortage of jobs to apply for. In that time period he managed to get 2 interviews. One he got as far as being offered the job - unfortunately the salary offered was too low to cover his travel costs getting there/back again, rent, bills etc. Second one was at a well-known supermarket and he got to the final callback stage but they gave the job to the other (considerably younger) person. Eventually he moved back to his parents near Brighton and found a job locally in a call centre, however this was on the back of his dad having put in a good word and having worked at the company for over a decade. It’s hard out there being older and with next to no qualifications / long absence of work history.
This is real talk! Good post. Completely matches my experience in job searching. Very similar indeed.
It really is tough out there.
I was only eventually able to get a horrid minimum wage job due to some whopping great lies on my CV which I found a way to make sure i'd have a good shot at not being 'found out'!0 -
Print out a load of CVs and just go door to door shops and businesses, simply
Can I please leave a CV, for when you are next recruiting0 -

What's with the resurrection of such an old thread?
I wonder how the OP is doing with their voluntary work experience at the library and if they ever came clean to their potential love interest about being unemployed.Print out a load of CVs and just go door to door shops and businesses, simply

It's not the 90s any more; most companies even retail shops all outsource their recruitment process and if they advertise for staff will usually have a website to apply to/upload your CV.Everybody has whopping great lies on their CV, nobody cares anymore, it i expected nowadays.
So what happens if the new employer requests references? Or you get a job offer pending references? You wouldn't even be able to register with a recruitment agency without your work history/job references being checked.
Are you talking about say small local independently run businesses? Possibly they might not bother checking your references but I would imagine that your inexperience would shine through within a very short period and you'd get fired.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Yes, I wish people would look at the dates before raking up old threads.
The OP hasn't been back to the site since early January and the thread had been dead for weeks.
I'd recommend posters save their energy and not bother adding any lengthy advice - the OP never listened anyway on any of his other threads.:hello:0
