O/S Daily Wednesday 25th November 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

HH – hoping things settle down now for you and hubby, some people are beyond comprehension at times, this should be the time where family and friends come together to support and love each other through their grief.

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Still dark, but has at last stopped raining, and looks to be drying up, looks like there’s a bit of a breeze too.

Dinner last night was scampi, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk, I has fish, jacket potato and veg. Tonight I’m not sure but have food in so can organise something.

Fruit for xmas cake is soaking, will need to buy some more for the puds – I thought I had more, will check the back of the store cupboard before buying. I was reasonably productive yesterday – went to the next town and got majority of the xmas shopping finished. I just have to find something else to go with my brother and sisters prezzies, get the outlaws and nephews vouchers, and find a few bits for my boys – they are not easy as they don’t really know what they want especially eldest – he may have money. I’m pleased with what I did buy though, as I went to the big MrS in next town and they have a double points offer at the moment so doubled up my points and bought boys underwear and socks with that. I need to find some bits for my hubby, I have a new handbag which will be part of my prezzie and I’ll be getting a bottle of perfume, and maybe some undies too, will have to see how the finances go!

Today I’m hoping to get the ironing done, and some housework – I was out longer yesterday than I wanted to be.

Keep safe and well x

Thank you for all you good wishes, I'm feeling better today, my stomach has settled & I'm more comfortable, I also slept better last night.

As some of you said, just the will reading to get through and that is a whole 'nother can of worms!

I have told hubby that we am not being drawn into any arguments about the will. There is talk of it being contested but whoever wants to do that will have to manage without our support!

I just want to draw a line under it all now.

Unfortunately the in laws all seem to like a stressful life & it doesn't do hubby any good at all, so I'm raising the drawbridge & we will withdraw into our own little world.

I have offered to make a memory quilt for MIL's great granddaughter from MIL's clothes but that is it.

I have been asked to knit 5 small scarves for a local nursery project so I've made a start on those, it will keep me busy for a few evenings.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

Morning all. Thanks nmic for starting us off. You had a successful shopping day yesterday by the sound of it. We are promised a much better day today with much sun forecast, which will be a very welcome sight.

I did next to nothing yesterday as the damned IC just dragged me down all day. I spent most of the day slumped on the sofa. Though I did make Mr TA his fish pie, which he thoroughly enjoyed! In fact I made two so he can have another today or, if not, then tomorrow! I feel much better today so hopefully will get a few of yesterday's neglected jobs done! And the flipping freezers are still awaiting a good sort out! It's been too darned cold in the garage to tackle that job these last few days!

Aw LAMEWOLF stay with us, on bad days as well as good. Nobody minds anyone offloading their problems if it helps. It doesn't do to bottle things up. I know it helps me after I have shared a worry or two on here.

Have a good day all (((((((HUGS))))))) to those wanting/needing them. I really hope the poorlies are feeling better too. Take care whatever you are up to xx

HESTER - cross posting. What a lovely idea the memory quilt is. Glad you are feeling better today too.

Chilly but dry, hope it stays that way. Did a towel wash last night so that is on the airer, hopefully dry enough later to finish off in the TD.

Builders did a bit more tile cleaning and put up the bathroom cabinet, looks good and can't wait to fill it with all the little bits of bathroom rubbish!

Went to see Spectre last night, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think we are going to see The Dressmaker next week, mainly as the male lead looks good (with his shirt off!).

The biscuits I made for work all disappeared yesterday and I was so good I didn't have one. I did have a bag of popcorn at the cinema though that was my tea and I had bought it at A$da before we went in. Also returned a dress to TKMaximus, I had one similar!

Got lots to do when I get home from work so I've made a list to plough through, most important is house insurance which is due on Friday (nothing like leaving it till the last minute).

LW - I love to hear from you, I generally don't have much to say but whitter on anyway.

Hugs to anyone in need. Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Bit gloomy looking here and I think its raining, off to work for me so will be in the warm anyway.

The course yesterday was fascinating and was run by a lady with Autism it really gave an insight into how the Autistic brain works.

Did a wash last night which is on the airer, hope its dry for tomorrow as its my work t shirts they only give us three and this week I am on a seven day shift !

Marie I have three orchids in my kitchen, which is actually the coldest room, they don't like to be fussed with too much and really minimum watering I only do mine once in about every six weeks, maybe try yours in your bathroom but give it time to 'settle' as it will have a hissy fit at being moved !!

LW keep on posting !! my posts are 90% made up of drivel :rotfl:and they still let me on :D

    Have good days all xx

    Gers How are you? x

LameWolf Just post! You won't be dragging the thread down at all, I promise x This is called The Daily Thread – not The Daily, Cheery, You-Must-Only-Post-Happy-Things Thread. For ALL our daily news, not just the good

redruby I was wondering how your course went. I find the brain fascinating. I sometimes find myself watching my nephew, wondering what he's thinking when he does certain things and would love to know more about what's going on in his mind while he's doing them.

Scampi has finally made friends with most of the locals, but only if they're not on pushbikes :D And only if he's with me, he's still playing up for mr tru.

I nipped next door and met their new pet - the most adorable pug puppy. I drank coffee while she nibbled my ear then sat at my feet and undid my bootlaces :D

Not much going on here, I'm deliberately having a quiet week. I'm just pottering about doing general housework. I have the Ikea catalogue, I'll flick through it later for inspiration for the hall and bathroom.

I've 'booked' some crochet time later on this afternoon, I often end up doing a bit but I want to sit and concentrate on it properly. And it'll be quite nice to actually finish something :D

    Morning everyone,

Just back in from walking the girls, cold and bright this morning, the rising sun is touching the few high clouds with pink, beautiful.

Took my DM home yesterday, via a lovely pub for lunch, we also took my old tv over as hers had started to switch itself off, mine is only 2 years old but was just sitting in the office doing not much. She was so pleased with it and phoned me later to say had watched Midsummer Murders all the way through :j

Quiet day today, need to change beds, towels and Hoover through so will get done this morning so can do some of my writing this afternoon.

Get well wishes to poorly folk, love and strength to those going through tough times, hope everyone has a good day x
  • Morning all, I have managed all Christmas shopping other than DH and D S, and D S wants a deferred present. Today I must knit a lot of robins to make into a garland for my sister and tomorrow I will be heading up north to see her and her family and our mum. Got ticket yesterday as cheaper and senior railcard makes a massive difference, have saved the cost of one year of the card on this journey alone.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone.

    It's dry outside!

I had a weird night. Firstly coughing every time I got even remotely off a vertical position, after about an hour if this I nodded off. Woke at 1.00am because the moon was so high and brilliant white. I thought that our outside movement sensored light had been set of by animals again but the light didn't go off. When I pulled back the net curtain I was stunned by the moon. Even the back garden was alight from it. Just a great sight. There's not sny street lights for eight miles so the sky has its own way.

Today I feel better. Thought I may have added to my woes by going out, but so far so good. I've cancelled by teaching session again as my voice is still very croaky and I sometimes miss parts of a word out.

There's plenty in the fridge. I started to clear out unwanted clothes yesterday so there's a pile on the landing already which I'll add to lTer this morning.

I'll go with the flow today. Not done anything at all for the C word, but we don't bother much anyway. Stopped sending cards about 10years ago when I realised how much people dislike buying / writing / sending them (especially me).

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I was not a happy bunny when I got up this morning as Max had got into my knitting bag in the night and had had a wonderful time unravelling three balls of wool all over the living room.:mad: It looked like a giant spiders web with a very contrite puppy in the middle. My girls have untangled it and wound it back up for me which was really nice of them. :A

My sister rang yesterday and asked us to look after Milo for a couple of days next month as they are all off to Butlins. Max will be very happy to have his friend stay here but I'm a bit concerned as we will have our Christmas tree up and I am not sure how they will be with it. Oh well, we used to tie tinsel to the top of the tree and pin it to the wall to stop the girls from pulling it over when they were babies so I guess that is what we will be doing again.

I've taken some mince out to make a chilli later to have with wedges. DD15 is staying behind at school as there is an open evening for the sixth form so I will save her some. I gave her some money as well to get some lunch as she didn't have any breakfast, I honestly think I would feel awful if I didn't eat something for breakfast, I've been swayed by the Muppets and have bought a couple of giant crumpets for today :rotfl::rotfl:.

I'm not expecting visitors today so I will be knitting up the wool Max played with. Fortunately it's really strong so he didn't break it. My friend has asked me to make her three mermaids so I will need to get cracking on those as well. I will put a couple of films on this afternoon and settle down and maybe forgive my naughty pup :D.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Good Morning chums a lot brighter this morning outside no sign of grey clouds just yet :)
I have a busy day today ,sociology class this morning then Dd has the day off so lunch at hers then we are going to get my son-in-laws birthday present as its his birthday tomorrow and she know what sort of things he would appreciate. Then I have to take DGS Henry to Halfords with his bike to get its 10 week check-up as he said his brakes are bedding in and need adjusting.Hopefully I will be back home by dinnertime tonight :) Its going to be one of the nip from place to place days today I want to try and fit a trip to B&Q's in as well as I need some white primer paint for my dado rail and its 'crinkly day' with 10% discount.
I watched part of a film I recorded yesterday before I went out to quiz night last night and want to try and watch the rest if I can.Its called 'Oranges and Sunshine' and was really good about the children who were sent to Australia in the 50s-70's I think there is a book called 'Empty Cradles' by Margaret Humphreys from which the film is based so I may try to get it from the library.

I have started to buy a few odds and ends for presents but just can't seem to see anything yet that's taken my fancy at all I think its because I have six family birthdays before then so present buying gets a bit fraught at this time of year.

H/H I hope things will quieten down a bit now for you and your OH, you are wise to walk away from all the kerfuffle.
I had a similar situation when my late Father passed away in 1974 with family arguing over things .My OH just said walk away and forget it we don't need the aggravation on top of everything else ,so we did, and I've never regretted it, sadly death brings out the best and worst in people

Hope all the folk who are feeling poorly or just a bit blue feel a bit better today .
We all have 'down days' at times its part of human nature, and all the woes of the world at the moment doesn't help. But as was once famously quoted 'tomorrow is another day my dear' and today is yesterday's tomorrow
Cheers chums have a good Wednesday
