FYI - Confusion over Prepayment Utilita Smart Gas meters
Options
This is just a note for anybody who has changed to Utilita and had a new Gas Prepayment gas meter and are thinking of changing / have changed supplier.
I was helping a friend who had one of these fitted when he changed his supplier to Utilita and he was confused by the meter reads as he had an excel spreadsheet set up to track his usage along with his bills and meter. He thought he wasn't being charged correctly and not being given any relevant assurances on his query, he decided to look around at other suppliers and requested another switch. Upon being asked for his opening reads he gave what he thought was the right reading.
Confusion reigned as apparently all these Utilita meters starting with a serial number "G4P" automatically convert the energy consumption into kWh and don't display usage in cubic meters, which every other supplier uses to generate bills. So please make your new supplier aware of this discrepancy if you do change / have changed as your billing when you transfer may not be correct.
