Master Socket - Who's Responsibility?

Border_Reiver2 wrote: »Thanks for all your advice folks. I have decided to switch to another ISP.
I have been in touch with TalkTalk to say that I intend switching & they offered to reduce my "repair" bill by £50 & give me a better deal. It's no longer about the money charged, I'll happily pay that to be rid of TalkTalk.
The actual broadband and phone service from TalkTalk have been excellent, with only infrequent glitches that were mostly in BT's cables outside.
My main problem with TalkTalk has been their contact centre. I have difficulty making out what the agents are saying, partly because of their accent and partly because of loud background noise. Even when I have told them that I had done all they required checks, they insisted that I listen to them go over their script, in fact they were sometimes quite rude Some of the information given to me by agents was contradicting what other agents had said.
Then there's the problem with the faceplate that started this thread off. Again, contradictory information from them. They stated with certainty that the faceplate was my responsibility, yet nowhere in the small print of the contract does it confirm that. Surely it wouldn't take much doing to cover this in the contract, then these situations could never occur. It would be interesting to see the outcome if someone could be bothered to take TalkTalk to court over this. Without any documentary evidence and agreement between ISP's and BT, I think the customer would win. I know who owns the boundaries of our house - because it's in the deeds (in writing and on a plan), a very simple way of everyone knowing exactly what's what. Maybe ISP's like to keep it vague.
Thanks again for all your help.
Who do you intend to switch to? I don't know any ISPs personally that would do things different for the most part. All your base are belong to us.0 -
I'm switching to PlusNet. I had been browsing their website and the next day one of their agents rang me to ask if I needed help. We discussed a lot of points & I said I might get back to them. I rang PlusNet again yesterday to discuss details & the big point for me is that I can understand them and they can understand me. I don't expect any bother as all cables and boxes are new from the footpath to the master socket, but at least their call centres are based in this country.
I've been considering changing ISP for a while, purely because of TalkTalk's call centre people and dealing with them in this latest thing got me so frustrated that I've done it. Actually, if you can get past the main call centre, TalkTalk's tech people are great to speak with.
One thing baffles me though - I spoke to BT (who apparently own PlusNet) and they told me that they could only give me 6mb, yet PlusNet assure me that they can give me 38mb, which is what I'm getting at present.0 -
Just be weary of the heavy use of traffic management they use on most of the Plusnet packages. All your base are belong to us.0

...So you are on TalkTalk fibre ?? The difference in estimated speeds could be because you will have to return to BT Wholesale equipment with PN -And there may not be capacity at present to connect you to fibre so you would be stuck on ADSL, at least that is what BT Retail think !!
As to retrogamers assertion on PN traffic management? There isn't any !!:)0 -
