I am a Software Developer who wants to buy a Tablet. I was thinking about a Windows Surface Pro. Is this a good tablet for a developer?

I have heard that some mobile phone providers offer a free tablet if you renew your contract (my contract is due for renewal in a few weeks). Where is the best place to buy a Tablet? The Windows Store? I have found a few slightly cheaper on Ebay.

I guess this depends on what software you are going to develop.
And, I am no expert, but I am pretty sure that most softwares, even for tablets and mobiles, get developed on PCs.

This is a delusion. Nothing is free and loyalty costs nothing nowadays. Usually you can do better by shopping around separately for deals for new customers and for the tablet you need.

I have seen offers on quid o for the surface pro 3. How does the surface pro 3 compare to surface pro 4? Would it be a bad idea to buy the surface pro 3?

I think the opening "I am a Software Developer..." is a red herring and OP is simply someone who wants to buy a (Windows) tablet.

'Free' tablets usually come with a not-free data SIM contract...which is where they recover the cost of the tablet (and more) over 24m or so.
Since your tablet will be a fully allowable business expense, why not buy what you need without being constricted by what your phone provider might offer, which will be a bottom end device and most likely running Android?
