Forgotten account details

Options
Hi,
So I'm thinking of starting a PPI claim on a HSBC Mastercard credit card I had for a few years a while back however I no longer bank with HSBC and nor can I remember any of the account details etc to put on the letters.
I don't have any of my old paperwork either.

What, if anything, can I do?

Many thanks!

Do you mean you want to put in a retrospective claim on the insurance or want to complain about it? Important distinction as to where the info needs to go to.

The last 6 years of your financial data will be on your credit record - see it free at noddle.co.uk or get the £2 statutory report from Experian/Equifax

You could just ring up the firm and ask if your account had it.

Do remember simply having PPI is not a complaint reason, if you can't remember any of the details or paperwork, do you even know if you had PPI or details of the sale which you are unhappy about?

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Sorry if I wasn't clear in my original post ...

Basically I don't know whether I had PPI. I would like to find out if I did and if so make a claim. As mentioned I don't have the account details so don't know how I would go about this.

    Thanks

As advised in post #2, phone HSBC and ask them.

If you did have it, what would your complaint (not claim) be?

You're muddying waters here by continuing to mix claim and complain.

Claim is where you want to use the policy e.g. you lose your job and need to get the insurance to cover the bills

Complain is where you say that the policy was no use to you / unwanted and they should refund the charges.

Ring up HSBC and ask them if your card has PPI on it, they should be able to find you from basic details like name (including maiden name if applicable), DOB, address (including any old ones) - if not, you will have to go down the DSAR request and send them £10 for a copy of all the records they have on you and see if it is on there (PPI on a credit card will be shown on every statement where you didn't pay the balance off in full as a new debit)
