Well given that the golf came out in 1974 and the focus in 1998, which do you think had the biggest impact?0

The Golf transformed the motor market worldwide and soon became an iconic vehicle.
Focus - I'd be hard pushed to remember what one even looks like.0 -

Go in then if it's such a stupid comment, name some front wheel drive hatchbacks that predate 1974.
How much of a following does the focus have over the golf?
The golf is a classic the focus is bangernomics.0 -
Both prove that the Mk1 is always BEST.
For this conclusion, I give you the mk1 Versions of the following:

Audi TT
Cortina
Sierra
Civic
Fiesta
Tigra
MGB
Midget
Spitfire
Renault 5
Twingo
Espace
Series 1 Landy
911
Beetle
Generation 1 Bmw MINI (It's the spiritual successor to the Metro really)
Astra
Corsa (as in NOVA)
Calibra0 -
Mk.1 MGA built 1955 to 1959. The styling changes that they made to create the Mk. 2 were all detrimental ...fussy alterations made just for the sake of change0

Best FWD hatch? Citroen Traction Avant (1938) but the one piece tailgate didnt arrive until 1954.
Renault 4 in the early 60's, Simca in the late 60's All front wheel drive, plenty of rear drive cars from Fiat and FSO (rebadged Fiats)
Austin Maxi late 60's all predate the Golf, So no the Golf is was not a large impact.
Ask people in the late 70's what a Golf was and most wouldn't know.
Then the GTI arrived and it got noticed.
You cannot beat the MINI for a milestone in motoring and you could have that as a hatchback in the 60's, converted by Radford or Hoopers if you had a few bob to spare.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You don't understand the question, do you?
This is about a mk1 focus vs mk1 golf. Both great and we'll built cars and classics in their own right....and their impact and influence today. Vw admitted after the mk1 focus thar they had to do something drastic to change the dying and outdated golf of the time. Every hatchback since the mk1 focus has been influenced by it, stylistically and otherwise.0 -

Let's not forget that the mk1 Focus showed the Golf of the time to be a dynamically average overpriced that was selling more on image than ability
The mk1/2 Golf was very different to the mk3 onwards.
The Focus also got larger but it didn't do an "Elvis" in the way the Golf did.0
