Wickes prices

I bought a few items from a Wickes store this morning and later found one of the items advertised on the website at over 10% cheaper - not an online special or delivery only, and if I clicked on 'check stock' it listed local stores with stock and the item at the lower price.

I contacted customer services and they agreed that there is nothing on the website to suggest that it is more expensive in store but pointed out that in their terms and conditions it states that stores do not have to sell at the advertised online prices and they can vary. So basically, any of the prices you see on Wickes website may not be the actual prices you'll find in the store.

I consider myself to be a fairly savvy shopper, and this is the first time I think I've encountered this. Something to be aware of I guess.

  • I think these retailer 'getouts' should be made illegal, but I'm sure many so called consumer rights folk on here would disagree.

How would that work where some retailers run there online and highstreet business's as separate business's? You can't force two separate business's to sell at the same price otherwise that would make a mockery of the laws that ban different business's collaborating to sell at product at a fixed price.

It's hardly a separate business when they give you the in-store stock levels on the website, and you can click and collect the item from a store.

This is not the same as Tesco direct where they ship the item to store for you to collect; this is simply a different mechanism for buying the same item.
