No, because it's obviously not land banking. I said it would be difficult to determine. Could you suggest a method?

In London : possibly the area of greatest need, virtually all land is brown field sites, so presumably would fall outside the 'land banking ' rules whatever they may be.

We need to understand why the building rate is low : land banking may or may not be a significant issue
'affordable' housing levies may or may not be an issue.
planning permission may or may not be a significant issue.

outside London the issues may well be different

I would really welcome some fat & sugar taxes.

Or maybe just slap VAT on all food....

.....obese people should be paying more to cover the extra costs to the NHS....

    .....imho

Of course, this won't happen but it should....

Why should obese people be singled out? Extra costs arise from people who:

    Drink
    Smoke
    Take drugs
    Do dangerous sports
    Deliberate self harm
Do not so dangerous sports (I hear rugby can be vicious)
    Live to a 100
    Poor lifestyle, not just overeating

    You get the idea

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Am I really hearing John McDonnell berating the Govt for running a deficit that would be 'bequeathed to our children'

This is the man who feels reducing the deficit is 'bonkers'

The man is rightly being abused roundly in the house for that..

Not over impressed by the content (not enough draconian cuts ) but he has not left much for the stumblies on the Labour front bench to legitimatly complain about.

Have voted Labour all my life but Worzel and his mates have made the party a laughing stock.

McDonnell is not doing too badly, considering this is his first "response" to a budget statement.

Lots of political point scoring (to be expected really), he makes some interesting points on Osbournes target failures, some good humour there too (Mao's little book!). A solid response to be honest. He even makes Corbyn look like an amateur.

A massive improvement over the pathetic gruntings that was Ed Balls.
Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.
  • McDonnell did well far better than Balls but Osbourne will be the man in the papers tomorrow. He had little wriggle room but managed to do a fine bit of manoeuvring.

No tax credit cuts, no police budget cuts.
Well done George! The people will like it. :)

After the outranges in France however much a tory chancellor would love to cut the policing budget it would have been very politically unpopular to have done so.
