Mornin,
I need to get into the back of my HP PAVILION G6, as the fan is not working/ needs replacing and is it easy for a novice to replace fan, where would I get a new fan, maybe Maplins?
Thanks

Ebay, Google your exact model. Sure it's not working and just blocked/jammed by ingested crud ?
If you need to replace check out youtube videos for your model.
PS don't use it until you fix it as overheating can terminally damage your motherboard.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
This is not an easy repair, I wouldn't recommend it for a novice.
The back only comes off after you have removed the keyboard and top shell, you are then taking the systemboard out completely to replace the fan.
You then have to get the thing back together again.0 -
I think we will use it until it dies, I have bought a replacement laptop anyway.
My partner wanted to use the old one to practice on, I did say she could practice on me, that's not what she meant HA.
I HAVE TRIED TO TAKE OT APART WITH NO SUCCESS.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ADVICE.0 -

You might be able to get it repaired at one of the High Street electrical shops (like iBrokeMyGadget or whatever it's called). Probably won't cost much.
Then sell it on eBay... or give it to a friend (or a kid for their first laptop)... or a charity shop...
You might also be able to sell the old one on eBay for repairs... so long as you haven't completely killed it by then!0 -

If it got much worse than that you'd be unsoldering the components from the mother board.

Thanks all, great advice.

Yip, very seldom you see a laptop fan that doesn't need every screw and every fragile wafer cable disconnected and taken out.
In other words, it is usually a complete disassembly - and I do mean complete.
I don't really understand why they are designed in such a way.
- designed like inkjet printers I suppose. Disposable.0 -
I part cleaned my HP Compaq by removing the easy parts covers from the back and placing the laptop back-facing a fan turned on full for a while and quite a lot of dust came out from the front vents.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”
