Please Help - ASDA Home Delivery Refund

Hi,

Can anyone please help? For several months I have been trying to get Asda Groceries home deliveries to refund several items that I returned as part of a scheduled home delivery. In a nutshell I have written a letter (sent signed for), emailed and phoned. All without success!

I’ve spent hours trying to get this refund - any advice gratefully welcomed. Here are the details;

I placed an order with Asda Groceries at the beginning of August. When the order was delivered I declined 4 packs of razor blades as the price had increased from £5 to £7.50 per pack so that the 4 packs (£7.50 x 4 = £30) were handed back to the driver. Also on this order only 4 of the 12 bottles of Guinness West Indies Porter were available and 8 bottles of some brand of beer that I had never heard of was substituted. These were also handed back to the driver.

I had been away for a few weeks so when I returned I checked my credit card bill and no refund had been given for the items returned. On the 24th September I phoned the 0800 952 6060 number and after a 25 minute wait my call was answered and the representative apologised, checked with the store and said I would receive a refund of £44.40 on the items I had returned.

On Friday 25th September I had an extremely difficult to understand message (the line was breaking up) on my answer phone asking me to ring Asda on the 0800 952 6060 number. After a 30 minute wait the representative answered the call and said that she did not know what the query was about and that someone would phone me back. When I asked the representative to deal with this she tried to transfer my call and after another 20 minute wait I was cut off and the line went dead.

I have phoned their helpdesk three times (each time having to wait 30 minutes in a queue listening to the worst 25 second track of recorded music repeated at least 60 times) and emailed twice. I have been told that a refund would be arranged back onto my credit card and that someone would get back to me. My last email was returned with the message that their inbox was full! I checked my credit card again and no refund has been processed.

I have copies of and sent them with my last letter dated 28th October the original delivery note showing where the driver wrote on the form the words ‘refund’, copies of the email I sent and a copy of the original payment transaction provided by my credit card company. In this last letter I asked Asda to write back to me acknowledging receipt of the letter and refunding the money they owe.

As of 24th November I have been totally ignored.

Never, ever will I use ASDA home deliveries again!

OP, have a read of MSE's Chargeback article and then phone your credit card provider and ask for a chargeback.

The missing money should be with you very quickly - if not the same day.

I don't think the OP has mentioned anywhere how much the order total was. I think it has to be a single item over £100 for chargeback based on the knowledge gathered by me from other MSE forums ;-)
Also - I am not sure whether individual items in a grocery order qualify for Chargeback even if the total was over 100.

There is no limit on chargebacks

the £100 per item is for Section 75, which is something different, and only available when buying with credit.

Chargebacks can be used for any card purchases, credit or debit

Hpuse, have you read MSE's Chargeback article?

In there you will find that there is no minimum purchase price (except for Mastercard where the minimum is £10).

Multiple items costing under £100 is unimportant.

I think you are getting Chargeback confused with Section 75 of The Consumer Credit Act.

You need to gather some more knowledge. ;)
  • Hi, thanks for your comments. I'm owed just under £40 with several items (all under £10) and paid via Mastercard. Worth a go, I'll check with Mastercard tomorrow.

Will let you know how I get on.

    Thanks for your replies :)

No - Mastercard will not help.

You need to contact the card issuer, e.g. Nat West, Santander, etc.
There is probably a contact number on the back of the card.
