Pets left home alone

Options
My brother shared this video with me because I've got a yorkshire terrier...

You'll never guess what happened to this cat and dog when they we're left home alone. Important message to be learnt at the end.

That video was set up to make the charger explode.

Cheap non-genuine chargers do that. Don't buy cheap chargers on the market.

I leave my laptop turned on all day, the printer is on all day, the mobile is plugged in and charging all night whilst I'm sleeping. The fridge and freezer run all day. The washing machine never gets turned off, the oven is on all the time, the shower is on all the time (I've got no idea how to turn it off in any case), the TV is plugged in and turned on, the Fire Stick (it uses a similar USB power supply) is left on all the time. Am I worried? Any of these things could short and cause a fire. No.

I agree with Happy MJ. We have multiple things plugged in, (all the things MJ named,) all day, every day; and some of them never switched off (fridge, freezer, tv and satellite box, internet, washing machine etc etc etc. And I agree that this thing on this video was clearly set up to explode.

It was pretty mean and cruel really, as it probably scared the dog and the cat. :(

Also, you wouldn't necessarily have to leave your pets ALL DAY for something to happen; you could pop out to the shops for an hour and leave them, and something could happen then.

It's like my husband makes me laugh when we go out for the day; (like from 8am to 8pm.) He worries all the time we are out that we will get robbed, but it's just as likely to happen if we're out for an hour!

Also, where is the link to the official stats for 60,000 pets getting killed by electrical fires in peoples homes, because of people 'leaving chargers plugged in?'

Or did the person who made the video just pull that figure out of thin air?

I never leave the house with anything needing an adaptor plugged into the mains;notably, phone chargers, battery chargers or laptops.

    I unplug :

My hairdryer/styler, after reading the manufacturer's handbook.

My laptop after part of the workings of my son's laptop had started to melt, while left on charge (luckily he was home and could smell the burning)

Any air fresheners , after an internet friend had a safety check by the fire brigade, following a fire in her street. She was told that plug-ins are one of the most common causes of household fires.
