Change BT phone number - no longer available

We've just moved house and signed up to BT phone and broadband. We were given a random generated telephone number and at the time of order I was told I can call up once phone is up and running to request a number change.

I called BT this morning to request a new phone number ( to one that's memorable for me) and I was told that they no longer provide this service and can only give me another randomly generated number.

Any ways around this ?

Comments

  • The numbers are not random, they are the next available in the list.

I'm not sure about BT Retail giving out requested numbers, but when I deal with BT Wholesale there is a strict policy of not giving requested memorably/cherished/gold numbers as they need to be efficient in telephone number utilisation.

I would suggest calling back and speak to someone else who might be able to advise you better.

6 digits shouldn't be difficult to learn and remember. I can still remember my mum's 5 digit Co-Op dividend number from the 1950s.
  • Well I hope Teddy grows up to be just as "smart" as you then.

Ill try again and see how I get on but I suspect I'll be given the same answer.

Teddy is a dog, so I doubt he'll manage a maths honours degree.:rotfl:
