Any ideas-must do in Quebec, Canada

We're going to Quebec for 3 days.

We'ld like to visit the Chateau Frontenac - are there any other must do/see things? (I like shopping);)

Whats the public transport like or in your opinion would it worth hiring a car for a day?

Thanks

  • Are you going to Quebec city or Quebec Province?

What time of year are you going because it makes a big difference what to see?

I am assuming you mean Quebec city?
Therefore there is the Citadelles fortress, National Museum of fine Arts, Civilisation Museum, Plains of Abraham, Parliament, City Walls, Old quarter/Petit Champlain, Chateau Frontenac (actually a hotel), a ferry ride to Levis so you can see Quebec's beautiful sights all in one go. These are the biggest sights in the town and are all quite close together. You don't need a car for anything around the city as the buses go everywhere or taxis if you want. I'm sure you could rent a bike to take a ride around the Plains of Abraham and in Winter cross country skis is the best form of transport.

If you are catching the end of Summer, there are cheap outdoor pools near the smaller river St Charles in the basse-ville and another just on the edge of the plains of Abrhaham.

I can't help you out much with shopping as I never did much in Quebec during my 16 months there. There's a big indoor shopping centre called "galeries de al Capitale "in the suburbs with an ice rink and rollercoaster on the roof of the ice rink, a bit unusual.

Outside the city, you will find it hard to visit anything without a car. I would recommend Montmorency Falls and Ste Anne de Beaupre and the "Cote Beaupre" area, a trip around Ile d'Orleans, then the Jacques Cartier National park, or if you can get there in a short time, a trip around Gaspe peninsula.

    Thanks BeradetteN

We arrive in Quebec city port on 1st October.

We will certainly visit as much of the city as possible. We're hoping to able to use public transport rather than hire a car but how far away is the Montmorency Falls? I've heard the rail service is good, can you suggest somewhere worth visiting using the train please?
