in Credit cards
Hi, i've been with the RBS Mint card for years, with no missed payments and a £9,200 limit but they are raising the interest on 20th Jan from 14.04% to 17.436 % ! That's excessive and they don't deserve my loyalty.
I've just had a quick look at the best buy's and the Lloyd's card stands out and my wife is a Lloyds customer.
The Mint card is in my name with an additional card from my wife.
Is it possible to have a joint credit card account in both our names ?
My wife has never had a credit card in her own name but she has taken out a couple of loans for £3/4K through Lloyds in the last 8 years with no missed payments and they regularly offer her more loans and a credit card. My wife also has store cards, mobile phone contracts etc in her name and the mortgage is joint.
If a joint card is not possible should we apply in my or her name for a card ?
Thanks

As Lloyds will have a good idea of how your wife conducts the account she holds with them (plus loans she's taken out with them) there's nothing to stop her applying for an account and making you a secondary card holder (there's no such thing as a 'joint' account). It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
There's no joint accounts. One of you opens the account and the other has an additional card.
I'd be careful of thinking that 17% is excessive though. That's a very low rate. If the card gives you benefits you like, think before ditching it.0 -
if you pay in full each month then the interest rates doesn't matter
think about a card with specific benefits that suit you.0 -
Thanks all for the replies. I've yet to look around at card rates generally so had no idea that 17% was very low. I had been running with a balance of several hundred pounds a month but recently been paying off in full each month. I wonder if that's what triggered their rate increase for me or whether it's for customers across the board ?
There are no benefits i can recall to the card but the £9,400 limit feels like a good safety net to have and i doubt i'd get that, at least initially , with a new card.
i just had a quick look at the best buy cards on here so the 6% with Lloyds looks very attractive compared to 17% ( if i/we get accepted )0
