Carpetright £29 hidden extra

About this time last year we went into Carpetright with our daughter to buy carpets for her lounge and two sets of stairs.
As it was a large outlay we (my husband and I) said we would pay it and she could pay us back. When our daughter told the salesman we were paying he said why don't you do it on the 12 month interest free option. He told us everything how much the carpeting would be how much the deposit would be and the fact that at the end of the 12 months interest free all she would have to pay is the outstanding balance. As we had never done anything like this before we, being semi intelligent people, asked all the questions possible to make sure there were no catches. With that a contract was produced and my daughter signed it. A few weeks ago I rang Hitachi the credit company to ask what day the balance was due, as the salesman said make sure you pay on the correct day otherwise it will revert to a loan. This is where we found that there had been another £29 added to the total by Hitachi the credit company. Firstly I rang Carpetright to ask why we weren't told about this added £29 and the girl was adamant there were no charges related to the 12 month interest free sales and was shocked when I told her there most certainly was. I complained to Carpetright customer services in an email but did not receive a reply. I then sent the Managing director a letter and the £29 was refunded as I sent him a copy of a Carpetright point of sale quote, stating, there were no hidden extras.

I took out a 12 month interest free option on a laptop about 6 years ago and in the contract for the finance it stated that there would be a fee if it was paid before the 12 months were up. Didn't it state this in the contract that she signed?0 -
In all honesty, if you went to carpetright, £29 will be chicken feed compared to how much more they charged you for the carpet (and underlay) versus what you'd have got it for at an independent shop or bought over the Internet... I've just had the top 2 floors of my house done and it would have been about £2000 more if I'd gone with Carpetright 😱
I believe they even have the cheek to charge for delivery!0 -
We have used Carpetright in the past, just because it was convenient.
There sales/service is poor. The fitters are terrible.11K Challenge
