How much is too much?

How many accounts is too many? How much debt it too much?

I have three credit cards. One with £4500 with balance of £2200 (0% offer), one with £9500 limit with £6000 balance (0% offer) and one with £7500 limit with £3500 (6.9% Apr). I have a salary of £22500 and £38k remaining balance on mortgage. No loans or car finance etc.

Would this look to a lender like I have too much debt. My husband has a salary of £130k so as a couple we are fine financially but just a bit dubious as to whether my debt will cause us problems when we come to apply for a new mortgage. Everything is paid on time, I use the cards a lot and make large monthly payments to them.

  • That's a lot of debt, both in relation to your salary and your limits.

Jointly, you may be fine when it comes to the mortgage, but I would certainly be looking to get your debt down.
