Just had a look and RBS don't offer a Classic Credit Card in their current range.

How about BoS? And how have you checked branch only offers? ;)

I guess this is the card the OP wants: http://www.moneywise.co.uk/bank-of-scotland/classic-card-branch.

And I guess the OP got one of the Platinum cards listed here: http://www.moneywise.co.uk/bank-of-scotland, perhaps the Platinum Credit Card - Branch one?

It's difficult to see what all the fuss is about.

is there really any downside to having the platinum account?

What is your problem exactly? Unless the platinum card has an annual fee that you would not otherwise have to pay, why do you want to downgrade the product that you have been offered?
If I had applied for, say, a Barclaycard initial and had been given a Barclaycard platinum, I would be pleased about it not complaining.

So presumably it's a higher APR than the Platinum card then (thinking if life throws an emergency)? OP really needs to think this through!

    Rep. APR is 25.9%.

Appreciate the OP wanted the Classic Credit Card because of previous debts in relation to Balance Transfers (and efforts made to repay them) BUT I personally would keep it myself as there is a 12 month interest free period on Purchases (and I know the OP said they'd be repaying in full therefore the rep. APR isn't such a big deal).
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

And a representative 18.9% APR on Platinum. That's nearly half as much again!...should the need arise after 3 months (see below) to revolve a balance.

Both cards have 0% offers on both purchases and BTs (first 90 days), albeit the Platinum is longer...so if they do succumb to 'pressure' the costs will be significantly higher with the Classic. I really can't see the issue in the first place, let alone spending time and money pursuing it further.

A lot of fuss over nothing. OP, you've actually been given a better card than the one you asked for, so I don't understand why you're unhappy.

You don't have to do a balance transfer, it's not compulsory, so just ignore that facility and use the platinum card in the same way as you would have used the classic card. If you pay the balance off in full each month, there will be absolutely no difference at all. If you don't pay the full balance, you'll be better off than you would have been with the classic card because of the lower APR.

Bank of Scotland have actually done you a favour here.

Does the 14 day cooling off period not apply to credit cards? You can always cancel it if your not happy with it?
