Personally, I would just leave it and let it expire naturally in a couple more years. I wouldn't want to risk them realising a mistake was made with the previous one, cancelling it, and then reissuing you one done properly which would give you another 6 years of default on your credit file. BUT it is your decision at the end of the day. It will only affect you if you are trying to apply for more credit and being refused. I can't wait until feb when mine finally falls off. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

You cant get it removed, You will have to wait about 6 years before your credit report is clean again. Some companies cannot work off a credit report if its longer than 6 years old.0

On a practical note ... I'm not sure if they do need to notify you?
When I got my credit report I had one from Capital One and Natwest and when you read the codes it said 'missed 8 or more payments resulting in a default' - I don't remember missing that many but must of done ... !!!!!!!
Yup says 6 years to clear on the credit report itself.0
