Clutch slipping on car in warranty
Hi everyone,
I bought a 57 plate car for my wife 2 weeks ago that came with a 6 month warranty and the clutch is starting to slip under load in 4th gear. My question is do I have a say in where the repairs to the car are done, after all I own it, and how long should replacement parts and work be warranted for?

Are you sure the clutch is part of the warranty? The underwriter of the warranty if they honour it have the say where the repair is done.0

I'd check if the clutch is covered under warranty. Most polices class it as a wear and tear item. The garage you bought from would be who tends to decide who is fixing the car. How many miles have you covered since buying it?0

The warranty cover wear and tear items as well, I made sure of that before buying it in case something like this happened. Cars probably done 400 miles since picking it up.0

You need to check carefully the small print about exactly what wear and tear is covered and your contribution to the betterment of the car due to replacing a worn out part.
Which warranty company is providing the cover?
How many miles has the car covered?
How much will they charge you for 'betterment'?0 -
The car has done 88k and the cover is through the dealer themselves. So I will see what they say tomorrow.0

I only have had warranty 'experiences' with LandRover and BMW and I know that with both of those you would have a hard time regards a slipping clutch.
I'm pretty certain that they would expect you to contribute to some extent as the car would be 'better' after the replacement.0 -
"Customer abuse", you'll have a hard time proving it's not.
So many people ride the clutch these days, particularly certain types of car that attract a certain type of driver. Although at 88k miles it's unlikely to be on it's original clutch anyway.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Well it has to start slipping at some point. So it has gone from not slipping noticeably to slipping noticeably in a 400 mile period. That doesn't seem unlikely, just unlucky that it happened soon after the OP bought it.You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
Probably why the previous owner traded it in; they knew it was starting to go. An experienced user will know a clutch is on the way out long before it becomes blatently obvious.0
