I need a new boiler :-(

Options
As in the title - my boiler has broke twice in the last week. I managed to repair with a new water pump, but no I have no hot water!

I think I am going to bite the bullet and get a new one.

can anyone offer any advice on who to use cost wise?

Thanks

Phil

You've picked the wrong time of year to get a new boiler. Almost any heating engineer worth his salt will be stupidly busy this time of year.

Two bits of advice, avoid using a self employed gas safe registered engineer that doesn't do fault finding. (do your research)

Other bit of advice is. Best engineers are self employed, so are the worst, You only find out the hard way if you get the worst. Getting a large reputable company to install your boiler will offer you better security regarding warranties/care packages and 'install' quality.

You will find the boiler manufacturer has a list of "approved" engineers, which usually means they did some courses.

The idea is that you get ~five year warranty if the boiler is put in by an approved engineer, but only ~two years if installed by somebody not "approved".

There are boilers sold with seven or even ten year warranties, but read the small print. Usually, it needs an annual service to remain valid.

I have enormous difficulty in getting plumbers.
    This July, NOBODY would come!

Well the one firm not to use 'cost wise' is British Gas.

All boilers fitted these days are condensing. Assuming your current boiler is non-condensing there is often considerable additional work involved over a straight 'one for one' replacement - a new flue and a condensate drain to name a couple of items.
  • Agreed, I had them out a few days ago and their quote is much higher than other quotes I have received.
  • Which (consumers association) rated central heating boilers.

    Best buys by make:

    Worcester Bosch 1 of 59.
    Vaillant 22 of 22.
    Baxi 0 of 42.
    Glow worm 0 of 70.
    Viessman 0 of 28.

Just had a new boiler, Chops...the engineer didn't change the pump or the divert valve.
If you have heat but not hot water, could be the valve.
