High street jewellery purchase - help!

Hi, I bought my wedding ring from a well-known upmarket jewellery chain last year. Within 12 months, 2 diamonds fell out of the ring when knocked on separate occasions.
I have since been informed by a salesperson at the store, that the ring is a 'dress ring' and not suitable for everyday use. However, I was not informed about this when I purchased the ring (from the Assistant Manager of the store) who knew that I was buying the ring as a wedding band.
The store manager has offered me an unspecified discount towards a new wedding band, however I cannot afford a new ring (discounted or not).
I don't want to return my wedding ring due to its sentimental nature, however, I don't want to spend yet more money with a store I feel has mis-sold a ring to me.
Any ideas where I stand as a consumer? Would it be reasonable to ask the store to provide a simple wedding band free of charge?
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Stones fell out when knocked? Well that's surprising...0

Do you not think the store has any accountability for knowingly selling a product that wasn't suitable for its intended purpose?0

What ring is intended to be knocked?
Knock anything delicate and precious and it will break. If I knock my
Car whilst driving it it'll get dented. If I whack my watch off a wall it'll smash.0 -
I think the salesman is talking a load of rubbish.
Rings are rings,
?? there are not normally any diamonds in a wedding ring.
Are you in the UK, you say 'wedding band' and not 'wedding ring' that s why I ask.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Unless you specifically told them at the time that you would be wearing it doing manual tasks, washing dishes etc every day, its only intended purpose would be to be worn.
Did you make them aware you'd need a ring that was suitable for certain tasks?
This is usually why wedding bands are plainer/cheaper - because they are intended to be used every day & during manual tasks while the more ornate/decorative rings are not.
BTW even if it isnt fit for purpose - its still not going to entitle you to a free ring. Although it might entitle you to a refund for your current one - which is something I believe you want to avoid due to sentimental attachment. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I have about 8 diamonds in my wedding ring. Haven't knocked any though.I think the salesman is talking a load of rubbish.
