Seeking Advice for leaving Uni

Options
Basically I've decided to quit uni. Its not a rushed decision and I think it's the best thing for me. I'm just wondering if anyone who has quit uni can give me advice with stopping my loan/student bank account etc

Not sure about the loan, but I didn't bother telling my bank when I left uni the first time. I did however when I started a new course and when I eventually graduated they changed it to a graduate account.

I wouldn't make things difficult for yourself by telling them you've left. If you go back or do a different course then you can let them know your new expected graduation year, and if you get a job then you may as well just stick with it, at least until you get your money situation sorted out.

I'd inform the Student Loans people straight away, just so that you don't end up getting a loan for this semester. I'd also inform your LEA, so that they don't pay your fees. If you do intend to go back to uni at some point, most LEAs allow for up to four years of funding to take account of people who drop out/have to retake etc, so if you've only done a year you should be ok for a Bachelors degree in the future. However, I'd imagine it could be a problem if you don't inform them before the start of this year.
  • If you've got extenuating circumstances and are thinking about going back next year, pop in to the bank and explain. They may let you keep your student account and all the associated facilities.

If you're not planning to go back, you should also explain this to your bank. If you've been using your overdraft and still require it, you may still get preferential terms, some banks are better than others.

You MUST inform the SLC and make sure your uni fills in the correct paperwork too. (My OH left in 2006 for leave of absence, decided not to go back and then received an additional £1500 last month!!) If you receive payments that you shouldn't, don't spend them, however tempting; they may be requested back at any point.
