Hotel Avlida - Paphos, CYPRUS - any good ?

Hi guys

Can anyone offer advise.

We booked a holiday today at the travel agent at the above hotel to go in September.

Got home and looked at Trip Advisor - oh dear, this hotel does not make good reading at all, and now we are not looking forward to our week there.

Has any fellow MSE'S been to this hotel ? or know of it.

Cheers all .... and thanks...

sorry but the reviews are right its not a very nice hotel at all. We havnt stayed there only drove past it and just from the look of it I didnt fancy it then some people came to our hotel who we got talking to and had been staying there. After 3 days with no help from the rep to move they decided to pay for another hotel.
    Can you change the hotel?

Hi Saveapenny - thanks so much for the quick response.

Think we have dropped a big woopsie with this booking. My wife does not want to go now - we hate shody hotels. Will ring travel agent on Tuesdy to see if we can change our booking.

    Hi Fruitpie

I always use the following holiday review site
    http://www.holidays-uncovered.co.uk/frames.htm

I know the Avlida is listed and really mixed, some excellent and some not, I think you are in a difficult position because everyones tastes are different ? some people go abroad and never eat anything unless it is British, dont like the sun, drink from morning till night and think karaoke is the business and if they dont get this they are disappointed, personally they should remain in the caves, but different views.

There are many other hotels if you can swap but you need to do your research.

    Best of luck

Good evening Happychappy, My wife is not at the mo !

I agree we are all different - thank goodness.

Not sure what to do now about this hotel - we are easy going, but do like a nice hotel. This hotel sounds tired and worn out to be honest. Cheers

if you can swap and your budget can stretch to try the Alexandra The Great or one of the Athena hotels. You might pay a few quid more but better than than waste your holiday time. Go or ring the TA armed with the names of hotel you would like to change to a they will be more likely to let you change if its more (even slightly) expensive

    Good morning Saveapenny,

Thanks again, just had a look at Alexander the Great reviews - all very good.
Regarding the Avlida - its mis representation if the hotel is that shody, one review said its needs a total refurb or pulling down ! what a nice note to start a holiday on.

I could kick myself as we usually do our research .

I will ring the TA on Tuesday to see if we can change. I bet there will be a fee involved. We paid by credit card, wonder if I could cancel the booking with Amex on the grounds that this hotel wants pullling down ?

print off the bad reviews. That way you can argue they "mis sold you"

something to think about for any future bookings through the travel agent would be to ask them to look up any accomodation on 'gazeteers' this is an independant review site that all agents should have access too.
