Old Style Daily thread Sunday 22nd November

OS Daily thread Sunday 22nd November This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I couldn't sleep so I have been up for a few hours. I keep getting cramp in my legs which obviously wakes me up and I have to hobble around until it wears off. I've tried eating bananas and upping my salt levels but I think I am going to have to talk to my GP and see if there is anything that will help. Oh well, it won't kill me :).

I turned the heating on for the first time yesterday as my eldest DD came round and she was really cold. I have a thermostat in the dining room and the ambient temperature hovers between 18 and 20 degrees which is fine and I am very comfortable with that. I appreciate not everyone has my 'padding' but that's what cardigans were invented for :rotfl::rotfl:. I am fortunate to live in a mid terrace home with both neighbours keeping their heating on pretty much all the time.

I wanted to wish Hester a belated Happy Birthday, I hope you had a really nice day xx

Roast chicken and all the trimmings today for lunch and that will be our last one till Christmas as it is a tradition in our house to not cook roasts all through December and then we really appreciate Christmas Dinner. I think we have some ice creams for pudding which will make a bit of room in the freezer.

Hope you all have an enjoyable Sunday whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning dumpling and all to follow. My in-built alarm went off as usual at 4.00 and I tossed and turned till I could stand it no more! Oh how I long for a nice lie in.

It was blooming freezing all day yesterday, with the frozen snow making the pavements hazardous. It was like walking on glass. Forecast cold again today and then back to seasonal average.

I am dithering over tripping down to TKMaxx again this morning to try and cross more off my Xmas gift list. Not a lot left to get now thank goodness. This afternoon I want to sort the freezers out in readiness for Christmas supplies. We have been trying to let stocks go down in there but they somehow still look as full! Probably because I can never walk away from a yellow sticker!

I have a nice gammon joint to cook for today but undecided, as yet, whether dinner will be at lunchtime or teatime! Depends if I go to TKM or not! Yesterday's washing ended up drying over the airer upstairs. I think today's will end up the same. Even if the sun is out in mid-winter it never reaches our small back garden when it's low in the sky. Too many tall fences and high conifers surrounding us and blocking it so the washing is just as damp when it comes back in!

Have a good Sunday if you can and ((((((HUGS))))) to those wanting/needing them. Take care xx

Ouch Dumpling, cramp is so painful.
TA, I used to have the same problem with tall trees.
I had a lovely day yesterday, DD1 came over with the children, so I had lots of cuddles from her 19 month old twins, her 9 & 10 year old were happy just eating, drinking & chatting. DD2 popped in about 4ish with her 11yo, 7yo,4yo, 16 month old & DS2 came over at the same time, DS1 finally phoned about 6 after a nudge from his sister!
To be fair DS2 only remembers because his GF nags him, DS1's GF thinks he should remember unaided.
Poor hubby went to work at 8 yesterday & should have finished at 1, he didn't get away until 4, I popped up to give him food part way through, he was exhausted by the time he got in.
I cooked him a plate of spicy chicken wings as I knew he wouldn't fancy a big meal & he went to bed early.
All I managed yesterday was to get my kitchen sink clean & shiny, the rest of the day was spent with the children.
Maybe today I'll get some housework done, but I doubt it.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone.

I slept well until about 3.30am, wandered about coughing and spluttering for a while before nodding off again. The sky was cloudless and clear - I've never ever seen so many stars before. It was stunning.

Today I will get up properly. There's a white wash waiting to be done.

I'm still coughing and it's beginning to thoroughly annoy me, which probably indicates I'm getting better.

    Happy Sunday everyone.

    Morning all,

Very cold here overnight with a sharp frost this morning, I am off to work which should be fairly quiet due to the weather.

We have a bit of pork for dinner which OH can cook with all the trimmings, one part of the oven has gone wrong (needs a new thermostat) so im glad we have the other part to use. I need to order the part today for OH to fix.

Right better get myself ready, have good days all xx

    Morning everyone,

HH - glad you had a lovely BDay with your family
Gers. - good that you are feeling a bit better.
Dumpling. - ouch about your cramp, best get it checked out. Like your idea re no roast dinners during December :)

Cold but cloudy here with a heavy frost, we didn't have any snow yesterday but will see about today.
Off to pick up DM at 12, that way she gets to go to her church service which has missed for last two Sunday's, will put a piece of Beef brisket in the oven before we go and have that with creamy mash, parsnips, kale and carrots. Was going to do crumble for afters but have a hankering for baked apple so will do that instead, start eating through our stock.

Hope everyone has a good day x
  • Morning all, slept until 3, now tired to bits might have relaxing bath, waterfalls but lovely, and then a nap. Washing on line, will soon be too wintry for that so am making the most of it.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one. Hester so pleased you had a good day yesterday.

It seems that the midlands were colder than the highlands last night-6c brrrrr. I put the kitchen heater on properly last night, it's really warm in there, so have turned it down to take in less heat tonight. The sitting room heater is only on low, I light the fire around 4pm by which time the heater is cooling off. The heater in the hall keeps the bedroom warmish, so the convector heater just comes on for an hour or so when we go to bed. The electric blanket warms the bed so it's warm to get into.

I closed most of the vents on the top of the windows, the wind was blowing through them.

No plans for today apart from cooking the supper. I have two mats to sew the binding down on and can always do a bit more at my knitting. Almost finished the second lot of stripes.

Just had my breakfast in bed. OH insisted I did not get up too early, so who am I to argue????
  • Morning All

Cold and sunny here but the heating is on, it will just finish off airing the washing from yesterday.

Went to Glasgow on the train yesterday, it was lovely and stress free! Cost me £5.05 (60p off with my Club 50 card!) so probably cheaper than driving in and paying for a car park. I was home about 1pm having got what I went for and a bit more.

Bought a new winter jacket, I have a big coat but it is a bit too warm for general train/car use. Also bought a dress that I thought looked familiar, it is very similar to one I already have in black - this one is navy. I had forgotten I had it and didn't see it in DDs wardrobe as it was inside out and I didn't see the beads. I'll take the blue one back!

HH - So glad you had a nice day with all the children/grandchildren, just what you needed.

    hilstep - Shame on Iceland.

I'm going to do a bit of cleaning and then go for a walk, we have had so much rain and wind that it's been impossible to get out. Not sure when I'm going but looking forward to it anyway.

Pot of leek and potato soup bubbling away that will do for lunches this week, I've left the skins on the potatoes which are red so it looks a bit strange!

Enjoy your Sunday. Take care. XX
  • Afternoon all,

Bright and sunny but chilly here today. Woke up to a little frost. We have the little baby, who is having a nap at the moment, he was very good again last night. Don't know when DS2 and his GF will be taking him home so I will make the most while he is here :)

If we have time later me and DH wil go and visit where my mum's ashes are. I don't feel the need to go very often but occasionally the need gets very strong. No idea why.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday :)
