You will need an aerial for freeview.

It's possible to watch streaming services if available on the internet but Freeview as you know it now won't work without an aerial.

I don't have my TV plugged into an aerial. I watch whatever I want to watch whenever I want to watch and all without advertising by streaming TV and Movies found on the internet. It's not Freeview though.

Thanks I am sticking with my crt but am going to get a tv for my daughter for Christmas, she watches her ipod for hours so I think she will be ok with just streaming what she wants and it gives me the option of removing the router when homework ect needs to be done. I can get an ariel cable put in at a later date if needs must. Thanks for your help

Great idea. Make sure you are on an unlimited internet plan. I sometimes fall asleep with it streaming and it's still streaming when I wake up in the morning.

Some kids do homework better with some music in the background so you could just ask her not to have any TV programming or music videos and ask that she just have a streaming radio station whilst working.

I am about to upgrade my broadband currently unlimited 17Mb, to fibre optic 38Mb as we often have buffering with 3 - 4 devices trying to use it, do you think this will be enough or should I go for 76Mb I don't really want the extra cost and have been told that you can download the programs first then watch them which eliminates buffering

Basically it depends upon why the devices are buffering .
One using all the current bandwidth or two the streaming services themselves are overloaded .

Thankyou but I have no idea what causes it, I am wrong to use the term buffering what usually happens is the devices run slowly, freeze and my internet connection drops out this only happens when we are running 3 devices so I am sure it is to do with the demands on it.

You can stream to one device with no more than about 3-4Mbps, so 38Mbps should be quite adequate. Have you actually tested to see what line speed you are getting, as that is purely the theoretical maximum?
