Royal Mail Tracking

Not sure if this is the right part of the forum to be honest

I have sent a letter via 1st class recorded on Wednesday - documents of no value but was hoping they would arrive by Monday

Have looked today and it still states

Status: We have your item- and then when it was posted etc

I know that it can take up to 72 hours for a signature to appear but is whether it has arrived or not instant?

It may have been delivered but not signed for, a common issue on this service.

Royal Mail Customer Services may be able to tell you more.

If after the number of days RM asks you to wait (think it's 15 working) you can fill in a claim form and attach a note asking for a refund of the Signed For fee. This usually results in 6x1st class stamps so worth doing. Occasionally RM may be able to dig out a signature that hasn't made it online in which case no compensation will be due.

If delivered on PDA,the sig should be near instant.
They are very old tech and as such can cause a 24 hour delay due to going 'offline'

I have sent letters tracked, never signed for and they did arrive. I was told the postman could have been busy and not had time to get the signature.

If you really want a signature then you send it Special Delivery at around £7

Indeed, across all the "Signed For" stuff I send (some letters, some small parcels, but at least 1 a day on weekdays) I can't believe just how many NEVER update on the crappy, not-fit-for-purpose joke of a system that RM have. Fortunately all have arrived at their destination - but I'd not know if I replied on RM to confirm it....

As others have said - if you absolutely must have a signature then Special Delivery is your option, especially if you want it fully tracked too. Too many people think Signed For is somehow treated differently to normal mail - it isn't, just a record is taken if/when it gets delivered. If you appreciate that then fine, but for a fully tracked service it has to be Special Delivery.

    Its not really the 'system'
In the main its the human element. If its scanned on a PDA,then the data (99.9% of the time) will update on the network.
Be interesting to see what happens when RM goes 100% tracking on all parcels via the 2D barcodes.

We get lots of tracked RM parcels that we don't sign for, usually posted through our letter box. Most are from Prescriptions 2 you who advise you of their dispatch.

Well you need to clarify the service you are discussing.
The majority of 'Tracked' parcels use a service with no signature.
This thread is about 'Signed for'.

Thought the thread stated Royal Mail tracking, not signed for Royal Mail tracking, perhaps it's my eye sight.

If you read the opening post you will see it applies to recorded AKA Signed for.
    Tracked is another service.
So are you referring to RM Signed for and its tracking,or Tracked as a specific service?
  • Thanks all for the replies

The item did not really merit sending special delivery really but was sent tracked just so I could prove the company had received the letter

Hopefully on Monday it will either arrive or update on the system
