I got my dress from a standard shop, but it was from their 'ex-display' stock. ie, straight off the hanger.
I had to, as I didn't have enough time to order one, as is the usual price, but I found my dream dress, and it fit perfectly, with no alterations required. And....with the veil, a necklace, matching earrings and a little bag, it came to £349! Bargain!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
For suits - DH, his bestman, his Dad and my Dad got theirs from Matalan. Less than £70 each!February wins: Theatre tickets0

I went to the market for my flowers as I noticed that as soon as I mentioned wedding bouquet the prices were from £50  So I told them that I only wanted to pay £25, I got a lovely bouquet & a few buttons holes, delivered on the day for that. I'm going back about 20 years though. We split the bouquet after the wedding & took it to our parents graves.0

Just to throw in another thought re dresses - I went for one in pale lilac with a matching stole that I could use for "posh" events afterwards. It's been to the opera several times. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

Also love the idea of buying fresh flowers from Tesco the morning before the wedding. I was going to buy artificial and make some flower centre pieces but the thought of fresh flowers sounds really nice and probably a bit cheaper.but cut flowers are much much cheaper than gettign a florist to decorate for a wedding, or buying "wedding flowers"
We also grew little pots of flowers which were used as centrepieces at the reception - if our wedding is not until next year you would have time to do this if you wanted.
I'd recommend looking in Aldi for cut flowers. My local one does amazing flowers and very good prices.0 -
I got my dress from a shop called Priddi on eBay, they have some lovely styles at £200, also as someone else said try BHS and Debenhams for price conscious options. I bought my own flowers on the morning of my wedding as I wasn't originally going to have any - 10 single stems for £10 and they wrapped them in ribbon for myself and my bridesmaid. Table decorations were made from glass vases, coloured stones and a big candle - Ikea or pound shops are good for this kind of thing, and you could look in the pound shops for vases if you'd rather have flowers. If you're not already on pinterest have a look there for budget ideas - paper bunting (especially as you can cut custom shapes), those paper balls, all kinds of lovely paper decorations to decorate the hall. You should be able to get a pair of shoes in the sale after Christmas - maybe some sparkly ballet flats from New Look, Next half price sale etc.
Department store counters will often do your make up for free if you book - I use Mac products so took my make up bag in to them and asked nicely and got my wedding eyes and a practice done for free."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Paul Theroux0 -
Don't bother with favours. Not an English tradition, not everyone will like them (sugared almonds- eww, cheapo chocolate- yuk), most are left on tables to be cleared away. Complete waste of money.
I would also venture the observation that only brides-to-be ever notice stuff like table decorations and chair covers. They are an EYESORES!!!!0
