Car repair costs...

ah thats interesting. I got the car 3 years ago and it only had 16000 miles. I think an older lady had it and used it for shopping trips but not much else. I have the history and since I got it, it has been serviced every year.
I'm on about 46000 miles now.0 -

You're having a giraffe! An oil coated sump (on the inside) is never going to rust from the inside. Metal needs air to rust so if the water is at the bottom how can it rust when air is excluded? - aside from the fact that an oil covered surface won't rust?0 -

Water sits underneath oil, the oil itself is rich with gases from the combustion process and simply being churned about inside the crankcase.
You can also have water/oil emulsion, just like in the tell tale signs of HG failure and again this is likely rich with gases.
Just because it's covered in oil does not mean it cannot corrode.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
